The India- Sri Lanka Foundation has invited project proposals in the fields of Art & Culture, Education, Agriculture, Science & Technology, Health, Social Works, Developmental Studies, Tourism and other educational activities at recognized institutions of learning. 

According to the Indian High Commission in Colombo, proposals are also invited for visits and exchanges involving students, scholars, academics, artists, professionals and performing artistes. 

These may include participation in conferences/seminars, symposia, art exhibitions, film festivals, cultural events, training workshops, and publication of research works on India-Sri Lanka relations in the specified fields. 

Additionally, proposals for translating literary works in Indian languages to Sri Lankan languages and publishing them, and vice versa, are welcome, it said. 

The Indian High Commission further states that individuals, institutions and groups are invited to submit proposals aligned with the above thrust areas, which would be considered during the upcoming meeting of the Board of Directors of ISLF, scheduled to be held in September 2025.

Applicants may download the application form from the High Commission of India Website (www.hcicolombo.gov.in). 

The duly filled application form, along with the proposal, is requested to be submitted on or before 12 August 2025.

The government is eying generating foreign exchange through the redevelopment of the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex, through Trinco Petroleum Terminal Ltd., a joint venture between India and Sri Lanka.

Energy Minister Engineer Kumara Jayakody made these comments while conducting an inspection of the Trincomalee Oil Tank Complex, and highlighted its role in the government’s efforts to generate foreign exchange and bolster the national economy.

The Minister’s office in a statement said that the collaboration with Lanka IOC and the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC), aims to develop the facility into a fuel storage and distribution hub.

During the visit, Minister Jayakody also inspected ongoing refurbishment work, including minor repairs and pipeline installations, to restore the British-era tanks for modern use.

These improvements will enable the complex to serve as a key component in supporting transportation, highways, ports, and civil aviation sectors, integrating them into a seamless fuel supply chain, the Minister’s office said.

Civil Aviation and Port Deputy Minister Ruwan Janith, who also participated in the tour noted of the global importance of Trincomalee Port, one of the largest natural harbors in the world.

He said that the integration of the oil tanks into the port’s operations would strengthen Sri Lanka’s position as a key player in international shipping and trade.

The redevelopment is being spearheaded by Trinco Petroleum Terminal Ltd. as part of a bilateral agreement.

The project, set to advance in the coming months, is expected to enhance the port’s capacity while generating significant economic benefits for the country, the Energy Ministry said. (Newswire)

Sri Lanka and India will work together to fast-track the implementation of the Sri Lanka Unique Digital Identification (SLUDI) project, the Sunday Times reported.

Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath said that a memorandum of understanding (MoU) will be signed next month to formalize the partnership, according to the report.

During President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s recent visit to India, he expressed interest in adopting India’s successful people-focused digitalization initiatives.

The initiative will streamline access to government services, such as payments to Aswesuma beneficiaries, while reducing corruption by enabling direct transfers to recipients.

“It will be similar to India’s Aadhaar card, which has benefitted millions of people,” Minister Herath said.

The project will be led by Sri Lanka’s Digital Economic Affairs Ministry and the Information and Communication Technology Agency (ICTA), in collaboration with the Indian government. An Indian delegation is set to visit Sri Lanka next month for the commencement of the project. (Newswire)
