Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah and his wife Sanjana Ganesan on Monday took to Instagram after their son Angad Bumrah was trolled by a few people on social media for his facial expression during Mumbai Indians’ match against Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday.

A clip of the toddler went viral on social media where Angad did not have any facial expression after his father picked a four-wicket haul at the Wankhede Stadium.

Ganesan posted a story on Instagram to shut down the trolls and wrote, “Our son is NOT a topic for your entertainment.”

“Jasprit and I do everything in our power to keep Angad away from social media because the Internet is a despicable, vile place to be and I completely understand the implications of bringing a child to a cricket stadium filled with cameras, but please understand that Angad and I were there to support Jasprit and nothing else,” she added.

The popular cricket broadcaster urged people not to make assumptions about their one-and-a-half-year-old son from a three-second footage. She slammed people associating her son with words related to mental issues, such as “depression” and “trauma”.

“We have no interest in our son being viral Internet content or national news, with unnecessarily opinionated keyboard warriors deciding who Angad is, what his problem is, what his personality is, from 3 seconds of footage. He is one and a half years old,” she said.

“Throwing around words like trauma and depression in reference to a baby says so much about who we’re becoming as a community and it’s honestly really sad. You know NOTHING about our son, nothing about our lives and I request you to keep your opinions online true to that. A little honesty and a little kindness goes a long way in today’s world,” she concluded.

In the match against LSG, Bumrah picked up 4/22 in four overs to help MI win by 54 runs. The team now has five consecutive wins and are placed third on the points table with six victories in nine ten games. (Economic Times)

India fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has been handed an official reprimand for breaching Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct during the first match of the ICC World Test Championship series against England in Hyderabad on Sunday.

Bumrah was found to have breached Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to “inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee or any other person (including a spectator during an International Match.”

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Bumrah’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the first offence in a 24-month period.

The incident occurred in the 81st over of England’s second innings, when Bumrah, after completing his follow through, deliberately stepped in Ollie Pope’s way as the batter went for a run, leading to inappropriate physical contact.

Bumrah admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Richie Richardson of the Emirates ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.

On-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Chris Gaffaney, third umpire Marais Erasmus and fourth umpire Rohan Pandit levelled the charge.

Level 1 breaches carry a minimum penalty of an official reprimand, a maximum penalty of 50 per cent of a player’s match fee, and one or two demerit points. (ICC)
