The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) says complaints received by the Bureau regarding financial fraud incidents involving foreign job offers advertised through social media are increasing day by day.

Investigations have revealed that the majority of these advertisements are fake and have not received approval from the Bureau.

Therefore, the SLBFE urges job seekers to verify whether the institution offering such jobs is legally registered with a valid license from the Bureau, and whether the job opportunity has been officially approved by the Bureau, before making any payments or handing over travel documents.

Furthermore, if anyone has information about fraudulent institutions or individuals, the SLBFE requests that they report it to the Police Unit of the Special Investigations Division via 0112882228 or the hotline 1989. (Newswire)

A seven-year-old boy described as a coding “Mozart” has been offered a job at a Russian software company.

Sergey from St Petersburg has been sharing videos on his Youtube account that detail how to write software for the past two years.

The boy’s videos caught the attention of information security company Pro32, which sent him an offer to work as head of the company’s corporate training as soon as he is old enough to be employed.

Pro32 chief executive Igor Mandik told the BBC said the boy’s parents were thrilled about the job offer.

“His father, Kirill, was surprised and said that [they were] really happy and looking forward [to when] Sergey would be able to join the company,” he said.

Sergey has amassed over 3,000 followers on his Youtube channel, where he posts videos teaching about programming languages Python and Unity and neural networks.

Mandik said Sergey had incredible teaching skills which others could benefit from.

“For me, he is kind of a Mozart,” Mandik said.

“I’m absolutely sure that when he reaches 14, he’ll be a guru of teaching and a guru of developing, and that is why we’re really looking forward to this time.”

According to Russian law, a child can work at 14 if they have parental permission, restricted working hours and a shortened working week.

The company said it remained to be seen how much money Sergey would be paid for the role.

“We have to wait for seven years,” Mandik said. “Then we will definitely start a conversation about his salary.” (Express US)
