CBL Samaposha, one of Sri Lanka’s most trusted nutritional brands, continues its longstanding commitment to community wellbeing by supporting devotees attending the sacred Kandy Esala Perahera, a tradition it has maintained for more than two decades.

CBL Samaposha’s association with the Kandy Esala Perahera began in 2003, reflecting the brand’s dedication to promoting nutrition and wellbeing among Sri Lankan communities. Recognizing the needs of thousands of devotees and pilgrims travelling long distances to participate in and witness the annual religious and cultural celebration, the company launched a nutritional support initiative aimed at providing convenient and nourishing refreshments during the festivities.

Since 2010, the programme has been conducted in collaboration with the Kandy District Secretariat, enabling distributions to take place within the Sri DaladaMaligawa precinct and surrounding areas. The partnership has strengthened the reach and effectiveness of the initiative while ensuring the responsible delivery of nutritional support to devotees and Perahera participants.

As part of its 2026 Kandy Esala Perahera programme, CBL Samaposha plans to distribute 20,000 CBL SamaposhaAggala packs per day during the five-day Randoli Perahera, bringing the total number of packs distributed to 100,000. The CBL SamaposhaAggala packs will be made available to devotees attending the event around the DaladaMaligawa and key surrounding locations.

In addition, approximately 2,000 Aggala packs per day will be distributed through the four Devalayas, providing nutritional support to dancers, performers, support staff and others who play a vital role in the successful conduct of the Perahera.

“The Kandy Esala Perahera brings together thousands of people from across the country, and CBL Samaposha remains proud to be part of this cherished tradition by providing nutritious food to those who participate in and contribute to the event,” said Isuru Mendis, Brand Manager, CBL Samaposha.

For more than two decades, CBL Samaposha’s involvement in the Kandy Esala Perahera has demonstrated the brand’s commitment to community wellbeing, nutrition and social responsibility. Through this enduring initiative, CBL Samaposha continues to make a meaningful contribution to one of Sri Lanka’s most significant cultural and religious celebrations, supporting devotees and participants while positively impacting the communities it serves.

The National People’s Power (NPP) has filed a case at the Colombo District Court seeking compensation of Rs. 100 million from former Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) MP Tissa Attanayake, for making a false statement about the government.

Speaking to the media, Deputy Minister of Public Security Sunil Watagala said PM Harini Amarasuriya had filed a case at the court against Tissa Attanayake in September 2024.

“He made false statements against the NPP before the Presidential and Parliamentary elections. One such statement made on social media was that the NPP government was going to suspend the Kandy Perahera. In August 2024, as an SJB representative, Tissa Attanayake claimed that PM Harini had said that the government would suspend the Kandy Perahera,” the Deputy Minister said.

Stating that the claim was false and that the government had conducted the Perehera after assuming power, Sunil Watagala said that a case has been filed seeking compensation from the former MP.

“A significant negative impact has been faced due to this false statement. As such, we are seeking Rs. 100 million in compensation. Tissa Attanayake should get ready to pay this,” he added. (Newswire)
