A woman has been arrested at the Katunayake Airport with 366 grams of Kush Cannabis, while a man has been arrested for aiding and engaging in drug peddling. 

According to the Police, the duo were arrested following a raid conducted at the arrival lounge of the airport yesterday, based on a tip-off.

The arrested man is a 31-year-old resident of Wellampitiya, and the woman is a 26-year-old resident of Angoda.

Three women have been arrested at the Katunayake Airport for the possession of over 05 kilos of Kush Cannabis.

Based on a tip-off, officials at the airport seized 1.104 kilos of cannabis from one woman, 1.856 kilos of cannabis from another woman and 2.288 kilos of cannabis from the third woman. 

The suspects, aged 25, 48 and 50 years, are residents of Wellampitiya and Maligawatte, and had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand, last night.

Officials of the Customs Narcotics Control Unit at the Katunayake Airport have seized 1.984 kilos of Kush cannabis that had been concealed in packets of candy. 

According to the Police, the officials had seized the narcotics during a raid conducted at the arrival lounge of the airport on Thursday (27 Mar), based on a tip-off.

The narcotics had been smuggled in by a man and woman arriving from Bangkok, Thailand.

The suspects have been identified as a 34-year-old man and a 25-year-old woman.

An Indian national has been arrested at the Katunayake Airport for smuggling 1.908 kilos of Kush Cannabis concealed inside a small punching bag.

According to the Police, the 73-year-old Indian had arrived from Bangkok, Thailand this morning.

The suspect is said to have concealed the Kush Cannabis in candy packets packed inside the punching bag.

A 30-year-old Indian national has been arrested at the Katunayake Airport for illegally smuggling 1.330 kilos of Kush cannabis into Sri Lanka.

According to the Police, the man, arriving from Thailand, had concealed the narcotics inside four teddy bears.

He had been detected by anti-narcotics and immigration officials at the arrival terminal yesterday with the assistance of Police dog Sarah.
