All former Parliamentarians have now returned their houses at the Madiwela Housing Complex for MPs.

According to Parliament Secretary-General Kushani Rohanadeera, forty (40) newly elected MPs have been issued houses at the Madiwela Housing Complex.

Rohanadeera further said that twenty (20) former MPs re-elected to Parliament have been issued the houses previously allocated to them.

Following a regime change, all former MPs were instructed by the new government to vacate the houses at the Madiwela Housing Complex.

At the time it was reported that several former MPs had failed to return their houses, with some having left the country.

The handing over of official residences at the Madiwela Housing Complex to new MPs commenced on 03 December 2024. (Newswire)

All former ministers who had occupied state-provided official residences during their tenures have been requested to immediately vacate the premises and hand them over to the government.

The Ministry of Public Administration informed the former ministers, in this regard, in writing yesterday.

It is reported that nearly 50 houses had been granted to former ministers and state ministers.

However, the Ministry of Public Administration has permitted former parliamentarians residing at the Madiwela Housing Complex for MPs to continue to do so until the conclusion of the upcoming General Election. (Newswire)
