The Prime Minister’s Office has rejected a news report aired by Hiru News, claiming that Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya had visited former President Ranil Wickremesinghe in the hospital.

Issuing a clarification, officials from the Prime Minister’s Office stated that the report, which claims that the PM had visited the hospital along with the former First Lady Maithri Wickremesinghe, was inaccurate.  

The Prime Minister’s Office further expressed regret that such a false news report has been published. 

The media institution has been urged to correct the wrong news report. 

The news report has been published in the backdrop of former President Ranil Wickremesinghe receiving treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, after having been remanded over the misuse of state funds for a personal overseas trip. (Newswire)
