An individual has been injured after being shot by unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle in the Maligawatte area today.

According to the Police, the injured person has been identified as an employee of a spare parts shop in the area.

The Police said a T-56 firearm is reported to have been used to carry out the shooting. 

The injured individual has been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital. (Newswire)

A 52-year-old man has been injured after being shot by an unknown gunman in the Maligawatte area last night.

The Police said the suspect, who had arrived on a motorcycle, had opened fire at the victim while the latter was waiting outside his residence and had fled the area. 

The injured man, who is a resident of Maligawatte, had been admitted to the Colombo National Hospital following the incident.

The Police have busted a racket on the robbery of external parts of air conditioners installed at various institutions and houses in Colombo, it was reported.

Operated by a three-member gang, the racket was busted following the arrest of the suspects, who were in possession of a locally manufactured hand grenade and a stolen three-wheeler used to carry out the robberies. 

The Maligawatte Police revealed that 15 air conditioners, equipment used to steal the air conditioners, a three-wheeler, and 10 grams of heroin were seized from the suspects’ possession.

The racket was busted after investigations were launched into complaints of the theft of air conditioners from two supermarkets.
