Tamil Progressive Alliance leader and Member of Parliament Mano Ganesan has called for immediate and impartial investigations into corruption allegations involving both current and former government figures, including members of the JVP-led administration.

In a statement posted on X, Ganesan said that a government must lead by example or risk losing public trust. “You cannot govern by only accusing others,” he said, urging authorities to uphold accountability and protect institutional credibility.

He called for investigations into former President Ranil Wickremesinghe, MP Namal Rajapaksa, and former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. “Submit evidence, if any. File cases. Obtain verdicts. Enforce rule of law,” Ganesan said.

However, he stressed that the same standards must apply to the current government, which came to power on an anti-corruption platform.

Ganesan noted that several complaints have been filed with the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) and stressed that these must be investigated without delay.

He referred to two recent incidents, the alleged importation of substandard coal shipments causing financial losses and damage to power plants, and a complaint lodged by the Deputy Secretary General of Parliament concerning the Speaker’s multiple residences, vehicle use, allowances, and ethical conduct.

Ganesan also criticized the Cabinet’s approval of a “spot tender” process for coal procurement, a method previously opposed by the JVP while in opposition, calling it contradictory to their earlier stance.

“Investigate your own allegations. Protect credibility. Uphold accountability.” Ganesan said. (Newswire)

Tamil Progressive Alliance (TPA) Leader MP Mano Ganesan has accused the National People’s Power (NPP) of allegedly gaining control of the Haldumulla Pradeshiya Sabha through covert political maneuvers, including offering bribes to local councillors.

Ganesan said two TPA members who voted in favour of an NPP-nominated candidate during the recent vote are facing disciplinary action.

He claimed that councillors were offered monetary incentives to support the NPP’s efforts to secure power in the local council.

“Is this the system change they’re talking of? Have they no shame?” Ganesan questioned.

He further criticized the NPP for allegedly trying to replicate such political behaviour in Colombo, urging the party to maintain transparency and respect democratic processes. (Newswire)
