A shooting incident was reported last night (04) near the water tank that supplies water to the Mathugama Kanda area, according to the Mathugama Police.

Two unidentified individuals who had arrived on a motorcycle had carried out the shooting and fled the area.

Damage was caused to the front window, walls, and cabinet of the house, with the Police suspecting that the shooting was carried out with a weapon similar to a shotgun.

At the time of the shooting, a couple and their child were inside the house, but were not injured. (Newswire)

The Matara Additional District Magistrate has been dismissed from service by the Judicial Service Commission.

According to local media, NewsFirst, she was dismissed after being found guilty following a disciplinary inquiry conducted by the Commission.

Meanwhile, the Mathugama Magistrate has announced her decision to resign from her post.

The resignation comes after she pleaded guilty before the Judicial Service Commission to the allegations levelled against her.

The Sri Lankan Police has sought the assistance of the public to apprehend two wanted suspects.

The Police have sought public help to arrest a suspect wanted in connection with the murder of a woman in Mathugama. 

According to the Police, the suspect had slit the throat of the woman in the Dholahena Watte area of Mathugama in April this year. 

The Police further said that the suspect, a 41-year-old resident of Mathugama, has fled the area. 

The public with information on the suspect has been requested to contact the Police via the telephone numbers 071-8591700 or 071-8591701.

Meanwhile, the Police have also sought the help of the public to arrest a woman who had defrauded Rs. 03 million under the pretext of providing jobs overseas.

The Rakwana Police had launched a probe into the incident based on complaints filed by five women.

As the 41-year-old woman has fled her area of residence and is in hiding, the Police have sought public assistance to arrest her.

The body of a 33-year-old woman, with a slit throat and other cut wounds, was found in the Dholahena area in Mathugama yesterday.

According to the Police, the body, which had been abandoned in the area, had been found based on a complaint received by the Mathugama Police.

The deceased is a 33-year-old resident of Mervyn Samaranayake Mawatha in Agalawatta.

Preliminary investigations reveal that the woman had been murdered over a dispute related to a love affair.

The Police said the suspect wanted over the murder has been identified, and the Mathugama Police have launched investigations to apprehend him. (Newswire)
