The Cabinet has approved an additional procurement of 270,000 vials of 1-gram Meropenem Injection in response to rising demand, following a request by the Medical Supplies Division.

This order supplements a previous procurement of 900,000 vials approved in December 2024, awarded to Genix Pharma (Pvt) Ltd of Pakistan. The latest order represents 30% of the original quantity.

The proposal was submitted by the Minister of Health and Mass Media and aims to ensure continued availability of this essential antibiotic in Sri Lanka’s public health system, Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Nalinda Jayatissa said. (Newswire)
