The Court of Appeal has suspended the ban imposed on the Ceylon Motor Sports Club (CMSC), one of Sri Lanka’s oldest motor sports organizations, allowing it to continue its operations pending further legal proceedings.

The CMSC had been banned by the Director General of Sports on 11th July 2024.

CMSC, which has been representing Sri Lanka in international motor sports for over 60 years, also facilitates the issuance of FIA licenses to top Sri Lankan drivers, including Dilantha Malagamuwa, Ashan Silva, and Yevan David, enabling them to compete in global events.

Following the ban, the President and Secretary of CMSC filed a petition against the Director General of Sports, the Election Committee, and the Minister of Sports, challenging the decision. They sought an interim order to suspend the ban and requested a directive to allow the continuation of all local and international meets.

After considering submissions from both parties, the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice N. Bandula Karunarathna, and Justice B. Sasi Mahendran, issued an interim order today suspending the ban on CMSC. The court has also issued formal notice to the respondents, which is returnable on 3rd December 2024.
