Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) member S. C. Muthukumarana was sworn in as a Member of Parliament today. 

Muthukumarana took oaths before the Speaker of the Parliament MP Mahinda Yapa Abeywardena.

S.C. Muthukumarana has been sworn in as the SLPP MP for the Anuradhapura District.

He fills in the vacancy created by the resignation of former SLPP MP Uddika Premaratne. 

In February this year, Sri Lankan actor turned politician Uddika Premaratne announced his decision to step down from the Parliament of Sri Lanka.

In his resignation letter, Uddika Premaratne said he had entered the political arena in the hopes of creating change as a young leader, but as the opportunity has not been presented over the last few years, it was difficult to take forward his work as an individual. (NewsWire)
