Public interest litigation activist, Nagananda Kodituwakku has been removed from the position of Attorney-at-Law.

The Supreme Court of Sri Lanka today disenrolled Nagananda Kodituwakku’s name as an Attorney-at-Law.

It is reported that the decision was announced after Kodituwakku was found guilty of professional misconduct. 

The verdict was issued by the Supreme Court three-judge bench consisting of justices Priyantha Jayawardena, Preethi Padman Surasena, and S. Thurairaja.

A motion has been filed at the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka challenging the registration of the National People’s Power, led by MP Anura Kumara Dissanayake, as a political party by the National Election Commission.

The motion has been filed by activist and Secretary of the Vinivida Foundation, Attorney-at-Law Nagananda Kodituwakku.

He filed the motion when the writ petition filed against the Election Commission’s decision to reject the registration of the Vinivida Foundation as a political party was taken up for consideration.

In his petition, Nagananda Kodituwakku points out that it is a violation of the law to register the National People’s Power (NPP) as a separate political party as it was a part of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) which is already a registered political party. 

Stating that therefore, the registration of the NPP was a violation of the law, Nagananda Kodituwakku requested the court to grant time to present the necessary facts to support his motion. (NewsWire)
