The renovated Narahenpita Railway Station was officially opened for public use today (06), marking the completion of another project under the nationwide initiative to upgrade facilities at 100 railway stations.

The renovation was carried out under the “Dream Destination” programme, a sustainable project implemented through the Clean Sri Lanka initiative, with oversight from the Sri Lanka Railway Department and direction from the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development.

According to the Ministry of Transport, construction work, valued at Rs. 40 million, was undertaken by MAGA Engineering (Pvt) Ltd. 

The project included building a new passenger overhead bridge, extending the second passenger platform, upgrading sanitary and drainage systems, interior and exterior painting, installing new passenger seating, renovating railway staff quarters, modernizing the electrical lighting system, and carpeting the station’s access road.

The improvements are part of a broader effort to modernize railway infrastructure across the island, and enhance passenger convenience and safety. (Newswire)

A group of individuals, including foreign nationals, have been rescued after being trapped due to the fire that broke out at an apartment complex in Narahenpita today. 

It was reported that the blaze originated on the fifth floor of the building on Dabare Mawatha in Narahenpita. 

Several fire trucks were dispatched to douse the fire, during which individuals, including residents trapped inside the building, were rescued. 

According to reports, the fire has been brought under control. (Newswire)

A 45-year-old Colombo resident has been arrested for defrauding Rs. 1,340,000 from the public promising to send them overseas in the first two months of 2025.

The Police said a probe had been launched after the Narahenpita Police had received three complaints in this regard.

The accused woman, a resident of Colombo 05, was arrested after arriving at the Narahenpita Police Station yesterday. 

Further investigations have found that complaints have been filed against the woman at the Colombo Fraud Investigation Bureau, as well as Police Stations in Wellawatte, Wadduwa, Meegahawatte, Habaraduwa, and Giriulla.

The granting of a portion of land belonging to the Urban Development Authority (UDA) in Narahenpita on lease for a health and related activities development project has received Cabinet approval. 

According to the government, investment proposals were invited on a competitive basis to dispose of a plot of land belonging to the UDA which is located at Kirimandala Mawatha in Narahenpita.

The said land is to be provided for a health and related activities development project for a period of fifty years on a lease basis. 

Based on the recommendations of the Cabinet-appointed Standing Negotiation Committee evaluating the respective proposals, the Cabinet approved the proposal presented by the Minister of Urban Development and Housing to dispose of 0.1929 hectares of the land.

The land is to be granted to M/s N W Realty (Pvt) Ltd incorporated by combining Ninewells Hospital Private Limited and Access International Pvt. Ltd. on a lease basis for a period of fifty years. (NewsWire)
