Prime Minister Narendra Modi has crossed a major digital milestone, becoming the first world leader and politician to amass 100 million followers on Instagram, underlining his unmatched presence on social media platforms globally.

He joined Instagram in 2014, and over the last decade, his account has grown steadily, emerging as one of the most followed and engaged political profiles in the world.

The platform has been used to share glimpses of official engagements, international visits, public outreach initiatives, cultural moments, and personal reflections, helping him connect with a wide and diverse audience.

With this achievement, PM Modi now ranks number one among global leaders on Instagram, maintaining a significant lead over his international counterparts. The Prime Minister’s follower count is more than double that of US President Donald Trump, who holds the second position with 43.2 million followers.

Other world leaders trail far behind, including Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto with 15 million followers, Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva with 14.4 million, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan with 11.6 million, and Argentine President Javier Milei with 6.4 million followers.

Notably, the combined follower count of the next five major world leaders remains lower than PM Modi’s individual total, highlighting the scale of his digital reach and influence. Observers point out that the Prime Minister’s Instagram presence resonates strongly with younger audiences, both in India and abroad, reflecting changing modes of political communication in the digital age.

The gap is equally striking within India’s political landscape. PM Modi is far ahead of all other Indian political leaders on Instagram. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath occupies the second spot with around 16.1 million followers, while Congress leader Rahul Gandhi follows with approximately 12.6 million followers. The difference underscores the Prime Minister’s dominant position on social media platforms among domestic political figures.

The milestone reflects a broader trend of leaders increasingly using visual and interactive platforms like Instagram to engage directly with citizens, bypassing traditional communication channels. For PM Modi, social media has remained a key tool for outreach, governance messaging, and public engagement. (NDTV)

As Prime Minister Modi met and commended the Indian women’s cricket team for their “remarkable resilience and comeback” in the World Cup, he was asked a cheeky question: What is his skincare routine?

The question came from top-order batter Harleen Deol, who also told the Prime Minister that he “glows a lot”. Her query had the entire room in splits.

“I never thought about this much,” PM Modi said, as he spoke to the players on Wednesday. A video of the interaction was broadcast on Thursday.

When all-rounder Sneh Rana said “it is the love of his countrymen” that makes the Prime Minister glow, the latter responded: “Of course it is. It is a huge source of strength. I have spent lots of years in the government.”

He added: “Despite all this, the blessings keep coming in and it does have an effect on you eventually.”

On Sunday, the Indian women’s cricket team beat South Africa to win their first-ever ICC Women’s ODI World Cup in Navi Mumbai.

It was a watershed moment for Indian women’s cricket as years of toil and near-misses culminated to redemption and history, with the team defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final Sunday night to become only the fourth side to lift the ODI title.

“I still remember when we met you in 2017. At that time, we did not come with a trophy. But it is a matter of great honour for us that this time, for something we have been working so hard for so many years, we have brought the trophy here,” skipper Harmanpreet Kaur told PM Modi.

“Our aim is that we meet you again and again in the future and take photos with you and your team again and again,” she added.

In their second appearance in the Women’s World Cup final in 2017, India had lost to England by a mere nine runs after which the squad had met the Prime Minister.

In response to Kaur’s remarks, PM Modi said: “You have done a great job. In India, cricket is not just a game. In a way, it has become the life of the people of India. If there is good happening in cricket, India feels good and even if there is a little bit of wrong happening in cricket, the whole of India feels bad.”

The Prime Minister also asked Player of the Tournament Deepti Sharma about her Hanuman tattoo that has gone viral on social media. (NDTV)

A group of former MPs have pointed out that the Dambulla Agro cold storage complex, inaugurated by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in April this year, has been issued an electricity bill amounting to Rs. 8,409,000, even before beginning operations.

The matter came to light after former MPs led by Udaya Gammanpila undertook an observation tour of the temperature-controlled agricultural warehouse in Dambulla.

During the visit today (15), a security guard at the site revealed that the power supply to the temperature-controlled warehouse has reportedly been disconnected due to non-payment of the electricity bill.

The warehouse was constructed several years ago with assistance from the Indian government, following a proposal by opposition MP Harsha de Silva.

The official opening took place on April 5th, with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurating the facility remotely, at the invitation of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. However, since that day, no services have been carried out at the warehouse.

Commenting on the situation, former MP Udaya Gammanpila urged the government to refrain from deceiving a foreign nation and its state officials, similar to deceiving the public of Sri Lanka.

He warned that such actions could result in conflicts between Sri Lanka and other nations.

“It is nearly 04 months since the facility has been declared open. But it is not operational yet. It is ok for the government to deceive us. But please don’t deceive at an international level. This could cause wars between nations. This is a dangerous situation,” Gammanpila warned. (Newswire)

The post Strength of Team India, as Shown in Operation Sindoor, Will Enable Country to Achieve Viksit Bharat: PM Modi at NITI Aayog Meeting appeared first on Newswire.

]]>

With chief ministers and lieutenant governors of over three dozen states and Union territories expressing solidarity and commending the success of Operation Sindoor at the 10th governing council meeting of the NITI Aayog Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said it is this approach that is needed to achieve Viksit Bharat (Developed India) goals by 2047.

“The strength of Team India shown in Operation Sindoor will also be the same feature which will enable India to achieve Viksit Bharat goals,” the PM said while addressing the meeting.

The governing council is the apex body of NITI Aayog and comprises the CM’s of all states, L-Gs of Union territories, the PM, cabinet ministers and top central government officials. It meets once a year. This year’s theme is ‘Vikshit Rajya for Viksit Bharat (Developed state for Developed India) @2047’.

However, while supporting Operation Sindoor, CMs of Opposition-ruled states including Tamil Nadu, Punjab and Himachal Pradesh raised issues of inadequate sharing of resources by the Centre and how it goes against the principle of cooperative federalism. Five CMs including three from Opposition-ruled states—West Bengal (Mamata Banerjee), Kerala (Pinarayi Vijayan) and Karnataka (Siddaramaiah)—skipped Saturday’s meeting. N. Rangaswamy, CM of Puducherry, Bihar’s Nitish Kumar also didn’t attend.

Speaking at the governing council meeting, Tamil Nadu CM M.K. Stalin said, “It is not ideal for states in a federal democracy like India to struggle, argue, or litigate to receive the funds rightfully due to them. It hinders the development of both the state and the country.”

Stalin pushed for the states’ share of divisible tax revenue to be increased to 50 percent. He said that the 15th Finance Commission had recommended that 41 percent of divisible tax revenue be shared with states. Over the past four years, he claimed, only 33.16 percent of the Union government’s gross tax revenue had been shared.

Stalin also raised the issue of Centre’s decision to withhold the state’s funds under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan after Tamil Nadu refused to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Centre to implement its flagship PM Schools for Rising India scheme.

Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann brought up the issue of water and said his state does not have enough water to share with neighbouring Haryana.

Punjab and Haryana are involved in a dispute over sharing of water from the Bhakra-Nangal Dam.

Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu also spoke about pending central dues to the state. Sukhu said hill states like Himachal should get a higher allocation of funds.

‘Operation Sindoor has to be converted to social strength’

This was the first time after Operation Sindoor that PM Modi interacted with the CMs and L-Gs of all states and UTs under one roof. Except for West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee, Puducherry’s N Rangasamy, Karnataka’s Siddaramaiah, Kerala’s Pinarayi Vijayan and Bihar’s Nitish Kumar, all attended Saturday’s meeting.

Addressing a press briefing in the evening, NITI Aayog CEO BVR Subrahmanyam said that most of the CMs who did not attend the meeting had either prior engagements or were not well. But he reiterated that there was a lot of positivity around.

“There was complete unanimity on Operation Sindoor and regret and anger over what happened in Pahalgam. That was a common theme at the meeting…the solidarity was uniform, irrespective of any particular ideology or party orientation,” Subrahmanyam said.

The PM said that Operation Sindoor is not just a show of army strength. “…it has to be converted to social strength. Society came out and supported our action. Similarly, Viksit Bharat is not the idea of a chief minister or an individual or anybody in the system…It has to be converted into a people’s movement,” the PM said.

“Ek lakshya tha Operation Sindoor ke liye…Viksit Bharat ke liye ek lakshya hoga aur hum ekjut hokar iske liye kaam karenge,” the PM said.

He added that Viksit Bharat should be the goal of every Indian. “When every state is Viksit, then Bharat will be Viksit. This is the aspiration of its 140 crore citizens.”

Modi said that India should focus on one goal: “We should have the aim of making each state Viksit, each city Viksit, each municipality Viksit and each village Viksit. If we work on these lines, we will not have to wait till 2047 to become Viksit Bharat.”

At the meeting, chief ministers made presentations about the vision plans for their respective states. Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu and NDA ally proposed forming three focused sub-groups of states, in collaboration with the Centre and NITI Aayog, to fast-track progress toward Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Chhattisgarh CM Vishnu Deo Sai outlined the state’s bold long-term development vision to transform the state into a Rs 75 lakh crore economy by 2047. As part of this long-term development agenda, the government has prepared a comprehensive strategy called the ‘Chhattisgarh Anjor Vision Document’, which outlines integrated plans for economic growth, social progress, and environmental sustainability. Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe has expressed his condolences to India over the recent terrorist attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, in which several tourists were killed.

In a letter addressed to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former President Wickremesinghe condemned the attack, which he referred to as a ‘heinous crime’.

“Having endured a three-decade conflict of separatist terrorism in Sri Lanka not too long ago, this criminal act is a stark reminder of the detrimental impact of extremism, which needs to be concertedly addressed,” he said.

At least 26 people were killed by a group of terrorists who emerged from the dense forests around the trekking paradise of the Baisaran meadows in the upper reaches of Pahalgam in India-administered Kashmir on Tuesday.

Following the attack, India has announced a slew of diplomatic measures against Pakistan for its support of terrorist activities in India. (Newswire)
