The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) has issued landslide warnings to three districts, effective until 10.00 a.m. tomorrow (16).

According to the NBRI, Level‑1 (Yellow) alerts have been issued for the Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat Division and surrounding areas in the Colombo District.

Similar Level‑1 alerts have also been issued for the Dodangoda, Bulathsinhala, Beruwala, Ingiriya, Mathugama, Palindanuwara, and Walallawita Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas in the Kalutara District.

In the Kegalle District, the Warakapola and Ruwanwella Divisional Secretariat Divisions and surrounding areas have likewise been placed under Level‑1 alerts.

Residents in the affected areas have been urged to remain vigilant for earthslips, rockfalls, cracked floors or walls, and falling trees. In the event of any possible disaster, they are advised to evacuate and move to safer locations. (Newswire)

The National Building Research Institute (NBRI) is fast‑tracking technical inspections to support the resettlement of families living in high landslide‑risk areas of Badulla District following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah.

According to officials, NBRI has already examined lands across 15 Divisional Secretariat divisions, with detailed technical reports submitted to the respective local offices.

Out of 177 land plots requested for inspection under the government resettlement program, NBRI has cleared 113 plots covering nearly 280 acres as safe and suitable. Technical reports for all these plots have been handed over, enabling development and construction to proceed without obstacles.

For families opting to purchase lands or houses individually, NBRI field officers inspected 552 out of 630 requests. 

Of these, 423 lands and houses were confirmed as technically suitable, with recommendations forwarded to Divisional Secretariat offices. Resettlement on these sites can also move ahead unhindered.

The NBRI stressed that by expediting construction and project implementation through Divisional Secretariats and related institutions, resettlement efforts can be completed swiftly. (Newswire)
