A 34-year-old man from Anamaduwa has been arrested on charges of creating explicit videos and photos of an underage child in Sri Lanka. 

According to the Police, the man was arrested following investigations conducted based on a report from the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US. 

The man, arrested by officials from the Police Children & Women Bureau, has been found to have operated a phone repair centre.

He is accused of having collected explicit videos and photos of children residing overseas, via social media, since 2022. 

The man has also been found to have created explicit videos and photos of a 13-year-old child in Sri Lanka.

A 20-year-old youth has been arrested on charges of sharing explicit videos and photographs of children to foreigners via Facebook, the Police said. 

According to the Police, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) in the US had shared a report with the Bureau for the Investigation of Abuse of Children & Women of Sri Lanka in this regard.

In the report, the NCMEC had highlighted the activities of the 20-year-old man, after which the Police Bureau for the Investigation of Abuse of Children & Women had launched a probe into the matter.

Presenting facts to the Fort Magistrate’s Court, the Police had obtained a detailed report on the suspect’s mobile phone, after which they had apprehended the suspect in Ragama. 

A mobile phone and computer containing explicit content belonging to the suspect, a resident of Ragama, were taken into Police custody.
