The Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC) of the Traffic Division of the Yatiyantota Police has been remanded in connection with the misplacement of his service firearm.

Police said the officer was arrested on June 27 by officials of the Seethawakapura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit after failing to return a pistol and 10 bullets issued to him for duty on June 26.

He was produced before the Ruwanwella Magistrate’s Court yesterday, where the Magistrate ordered that he be remanded until June 30.

Investigations into the incident are being carried out by the Seethawakapura Divisional Crime Investigation Unit together with the special operations team of the Seethawak Senior Superintendent of Police. (Newswire)

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kundasale Police Training School has been arrested by the Nuwara Eliya Police in connection with the suspicious death of a physiotherapist in Teldeniya.

Police said the arrest was made on charges of aiding and abetting the main suspect and his wife to hide.

Extensive investigations are already underway into this death, and the police stated that this officer has been arrested based on a confession made by the suspect.

The OIC of the Kundasale Police Training School is reported to have served as the former OIC of the Menikhinna Police Station.

Meanwhile, the Nuwara Eliya Magistrate’s Court has granted permission to detain and question the main suspect, his wife, and another suspect for 48 hours.

On June 17, the body of the physiotherapist was discovered inside a car near the Teldeniya Hospital. (Newswire)

The Officer‑in‑Charge (OIC) of the Welikada Police Station has been remanded after being arrested on suspicion of soliciting a bribe of Rs. 300,000 each to return passports belonging to Chinese nationals detained recently in Rajagiriya.

The suspect was taken into custody by the Colombo Central Crimes Investigation Division and produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court.

Investigations have been launched into the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Norochcholai Police Station, accused of having links with drug traffickers.

The investigations come after several audio clips of the OIC conversing with various alleged drug lords were made public recently. 

Addressing the Parliament this week, Deputy Minister of Defence Aruna Jayasekera said a probe will be conducted into the matter, after which necessary actions will be taken.

Speaking to the media recently, Police Spokesman ASP F.U. Wootler said the Inspector General of Police (IGP) has been informed of the matter.

ASP Wootler further said that an investigation has been launched into the Norochcholai OIC on the directive of the IGP. (Newswire)

The Officer-in-Charge (OIC) of the Kalpitiya Police Station has been presented before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court on allegations of allegedly sexually abusing a female Police Constable. 

The Police said the suspect OIC had appeared before the court on Tuesday (Feb 13) via his lawyer, who had filed a motion in court. 

The Justice released the OIC on a surety of Rs. 500,000 and also ordered the OIC to report to the Office of Senior Superintendent of Police in Kuliyapitiya on every last Sunday of the month.

The case has been fixed for March 06, 2024, while the Office of the Senior Superintendent of Police in Kuliyapitiya is conducting further investigations. (NewsWire)
