The Most Venerable Thibbatuwawe Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thero, the Mahanayake of the Malwatta Chapter, has suspended the title of Chief Judicial Sangha Leader of the Devamedi Hathpattuwa of the Chief Incumbent of the Padeniya Rajamaha Viharaya, Venerable Katumuluwe Sumanaratne Thera.

In a letter issued on Sunday (18 May), the Malwatta faction stated that this action was taken as the program called ‘Sihinaya’ was held at the temple on Saturday (17 May), disregarding the order of the Maha Sangha Council not to conduct it.

Accordingly, it was officially announced that the position of Chief Judicial Sangha Leader of the Devamedi Hathpattuwa, held by Venerable Sumanaratne Thera, will be suspended. (Newswire)
