The North Central Provincial Education Department has decided to temporarily suspend the third-term examinations of Grade 11 for schools in the province following reports of several examination papers being leaked before the exam.

The Department said that, however, third-term exams from Grade 06-10 will continue as scheduled. 

The suspension of exams is only for Grade 11 in schools in the North Central Province. 

The move comes after it was reported that two more question papers of the Grade 11 third-term examination of schools in the North Central Province had been leaked before the exam, aside from the Sinhala Literature paper.

The Education Secretary to the North Central Province, Sirimevan Dharmasena confirmed that the Science and English papers had also been leaked. 

Dharmasena said that last morning they had received information that the Sinhala Literature paper had been leaked and that by last evening, they received information that the question papers of exams scheduled for today and tomorrow had also been leaked. 

Stating that a complaint has been filed with the Anuradhapura Police Headquarters in this regard, he said investigations are underway to identify the perpetrators behind the paper leak.

The Sinhala Literature exam for the Grade 11 final term test of schools in the North Central Province has been postponed due to some questions being leaked on social media. 

The Education Secretary to the North Central Province, Sirimevan Dharmasena said some questions of the examination to be held today had been leaked before the exam.

Around 22,000 students were to sit for the examination of which the government had spent Rs. 150,000 to print the said question paper. 

However, the Education Ministry received information that some tuition teachers in the Anuradhapura and Kurunegala areas had shared some questions of the exam paper with their students prior to the exam. 

Accordingly, the distribution of examination papers at 600 schools in 30 divisions of 08 educational zones was halted today. 

Sirimevan Dharmasena further said that measures were taken to temporarily postpone the examination and that a new question paper will be prepared and distributed in due course. 

He added that a complaint has been filed with the Anuradhapura Police to identify the perpetrators behind the paper leak. (Newswire)

President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has instructed the suspension of the evaluation of the Grade 5 Scholarship exam answer scripts for two weeks following complaints from parents about the potential leak of more questions. 

Government spokesperson Vijitha Herath said that a group of parents who met with the President claimed that eight questions from the exam had been leaked, not just three as initially reported.

The President has asked the parents to provide evidence of the leak, and until further investigation, the evaluation process will remain suspended, he said.

Minister Vijitha Herath confirmed the suspension and reiterated that the authorities are taking the allegations seriously.

Addressing the media today, Minister Vijitha Herath said that investigations by the Police and Education Ministry had confirmed the leak of three questions and that based on this, the Expert Committee appointed to look into the matter decided to award full marks for the leaked questions. 

As parents have claimed more questions have been leaked, Herath said discussions in this regard were held with the participation of the President and the Prime Minister, who is also the Education Minister.

Minister Herath said as an initial step, a decision was taken to temporarily suspend paper marking and that further measures would be taken once evidence was provided by the parents proving that more questions had been leaked. (Newswire)
