Two suspects have been arrested over the possession of an internationally manufactured pistol and 12 live ammunition in the Dematagoda area.

According to the Police, the suspects were arrested during a raid conducted by the CID on Veluvana Road, based on a tipoff.

One suspect was arrested over the possession of the weapon, while another suspect who had aided him was arrested in Colpetty yesterday. 

The suspects are aged 24 and 42, and are residents of Dematagoda. (Newswire)

An individual in possession of a pistol, a magazine and 12 bullets was apprehended near the Katunayake Airport last night.

The 41-year-old man was arrested during a raid conducted by Police officials deployed at the airport departure terminal, based on a tip-off.

Preliminary investigations have found that the suspect, a resident of Ratmalana, had been previously arrested by the Mount Lavinia Police in connection with a shooting in December 2018. 

He has been handed over to the Peliyagoda Police Crimes Investigation Unit for further investigations. (Newswire)
