A stock of imported liquor bottles kept as case evidence have been found to be replaced with plain tea, prompting the Colombo Magistrate’s Court Registrar to file a complaint with the Keselwatta Police.

According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, a stock of Arrack bottles among the imported liquor had been found to be replaced with plain tea when the bottles were taken to be destroyed.

The liquor bottles had been ordered to be destroyed in the presence of court officials by Colombo Additional Magistrate Pasan Amarasena. 

However, at the time, it was found that 81 imported liquor bottles and 150 beer bottles had been replaced with other liquid substances. 

This was detected during the inspection of 17 bottles, after which the magistrate had ordered the liquor bottles to be seized and taken into court custody. 

As such, the court registrar has filed a complaint with the Keselwatta Police to launch an investigation into the matter. (Newswire)

The prices of three food items have been increased in line with the recent hike in gas prices.

The President of the All Island Canteen and Restaurant Owners’ Association Harshana Rukshan made the announcement during a media briefing held today. 

Accordingly, the prices of the following food items have been increased;

• Plain tea – Increased by Rs. 10
• Koththu Rotti – Increased by Rs. 20
• Rice packet – Increased by Rs. 50

The All Ceylon Canteen Owners Association has decided to amend the prices of certain food items in line with the recent reduction in gas prices in Sri Lanka.

Chairman of the Association Asela Sampath stated that the price of a rice packet, Koththu, and Fried Rice will be reduced by 20% from midnight today (05).

Asela Sampath further stated that the price of a cup of plain tea will be reduced by Rs. 10 with the new price Rs. 30, while a cup of milk tea will cost Rs. 90. (NewsWire)
