The High Commission of India in Sri Lanka has issued the first Overseas Citizenship of India (OCI) card under the newly simplified process to Deputy Minister of Plantation and Community Infrastructure, Pradeep Sundaralingam.

In a post on ‘X’, Indian High Commissioner Santosh Jha said the card was handed over following the April 2026 announcement by Indian Vice President C.P. Radhakrishnan, which extended OCI eligibility to 5th and 6th generation Indian Origin Tamils (IOTs) and the wider diaspora in Sri Lanka.

Explaining the reforms, Jha noted that the Government of India has introduced a new e‑OCI facility, allowing cardholders to store and use their OCI credentials on mobile phones for easier travel and entry into India. (Newswire)
