The Colombo High Court today ordered former Civil Aviation Minister Priyankara Jayaratne to reappear on September 11 in connection with a corruption case alleging financial loss to the Government through the printing of Vesak cards.

High Court Judge Rashantha Godawela issued the order after hearing testimony from witness number 11. 

The judge also directed the Bribery Commission to submit all evidence reports already obtained to the court.

The Commission has filed two charges against Jayaratne, alleging that between May 10 and June 6, 2013, while serving as Minister of Civil Aviation, he authorized the printing of 3,000 Vesak cards, causing a loss of Rs. 128,520 to the state.

The case is scheduled to be taken up again on September 11, with further submissions expected from the Bribery Commission. (Newswire)

Former Minister Piyankara Jayaratne has left the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption after recording a statement in connection with the probe related to the Airbus deal linked to SriLankan Airlines.

Piyankara Jayaratne had departed after giving a statement for nearly four hours before the Commission.

He had appeared before the Commission today (12) following a summons to record a statement regarding the alleged 2 million US Dollars in bribes said to have been given during the purchase of Airbus aircraft by SriLankan Airlines in 2013. (Newswire)
