The Bribery Commission says a judge of the Kalmunai Quazi Court and his wife were arrested for soliciting a bribe of Rs. 2300. 

According to the Bribery Commission, the suspects were taken into custody at the Magistrate’s office located in the Maruthamunai area of the Ampara District last evening.

The arrests were made following a complaint filed by a female resident of Kalmunai, stating that the suspects had solicited a bribe to resolve issues related to child support. 

The Bribery Commission further states that the aggrieved party had sought assistance from the Quazi Court to receive child support for her three children from her divorced spouse.

The suspects had solicited and accepted a bribe of Rs. 300 per month to date for this purpose, while they had solicited a bribe of Rs. 2000 to provide the child support offered for this month.

A judge and clerk of the Kaduruwela Quazi Court have been arrested by officials of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC) over allegations of soliciting and accepting a bribe.

They were arrested based on a complaint filed by a female resident of Kaduruwela who had filed for divorce on June 18, 2025, at the court. 

The complainant has alleged that the judge and the clerk had demanded a bribe of Rs. 100,000 to deliver a favourable ruling in her case.

Acting on the complaint, Bribery Commission officers arrested the two suspects at the Kaduruwela Quazi Court premises at 9:11 am and 9:35 am today. (Newswire)

A judge of the Quazi Court in Gelioya has been arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs. 200,000.

It is reported that the Quazi Court judge had been arrested by Bribery Commission officials while at his office this morning.

The arrest has been made based on a complaint filed by a businessman in Kandy.

A judge of the Udathalawinna Quazi Court in Kandy has been arrested for obtaining a bribe of Rs. 4,500, it was reported.

According to the Lankadeepa newspaper, the judge was arrested by officials from the Bribery Commission while accepting the bribe within the Quazi Court premises. 

It is reported that the judge had solicited a bribe from a woman to hand over documents of the court’s verdict related to her divorce case.

A complaint had been filed by the woman, a resident of the Kumbukkandura area in Raja-Ella, with the Bribery Commission after which the judge was arrested during a raid. (Newswire)

A judge of the Puttalam Quazi Court has been arrested for obtaining a bribe of Rs. 5000.

According to the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption (CIABOC), he was arrested and presented before the Puttalam Magistrate’s Court. 

The Puttalam Quazi Court judge was, thereafter, remanded until May 06, 2024. 

The Bribery Commission revealed that the Quazi Court judge was arrested based on a complaint made by a female resident of Vettalai, Puttalam.
