Pakistani forces mistakenly opened fire on civilians in Quetta’s Marriabad area, injuring two young men after misidentifying them as members of the Baloch armed groups.

According to sources, the incident occurred at an FC (Frontier Corps) check post in the mountainous region of Quetta. The forces fired upon the youth, seriously injuring Kifayat Ali Hazara and Tayyab Hazara, while Moeen Hazara survived the attack. The wounded individuals were immediately taken to a hospital for treatment, with one reported to be in critical condition.

The incident has sparked outrage among citizens, who have strongly condemned the forces’ actions. Many have criticized the Pakistani personnel for opening fire on unarmed civilians out of fear of armed groups, calling it an unjustifiable act.

Authorities have yet to issue an official statement regarding the shooting. (Balochistan Post)

The family of Dr. Abdul Hayee Baloch, who was allegedly forcibly disappeared by Pakistani forces, held a protest in Quetta on Tuesday, demanding his immediate recovery.

The rally began at Balochistan University and proceeded through the city before concluding at the Quetta Press Club.

The protest attracted significant support, with many participants holding photos of their missing loved ones and chanting slogans against enforced disappearances.

Dr. Baloch’s sister, Bakhtawar Baloch, addressed the crowd, expressing deep concern over her brother’s disappearance. She said that Dr. Baloch, an Operating Theatre Assistant at Awaran District Hospital, was taken by state forces on June 1, 2024. Despite three months passing, there has been no information on his whereabouts.

Bakhtawar Baloch urged authorities to either present her brother in court if there are allegations against him or release him if he is innocent. She called on the government to alleviate the family’s suffering by bringing Dr. Baloch back home.

Other families of forcibly disappeared individuals from Balochistan also participated in the protest, echoing similar demands. They criticized the government’s offer of financial compensation, arguing that it fails to address their demand for justice.

The protesters emphasized that their struggle is for the safe return of their loved ones, not for monetary compensation. (Balochistan Post)

The wife of an employee of the postal services claimed that her husband had gone missing and urged the government and law enforcement agencies to ensure his recovery.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, the spouse of Zaheer Ahmed said he disappeared from Zarghoon Road on June 27 while returning home from work.

“If there are allegations against my husband, he should be produced in a court,” she pleaded.

She claimed that their home had been raided several times in the past without any reason.

In reply to a question, she said the family approached the Sariab police station to file an FIR, but no case has been registered so far.

Separately, family members of the seven people who were kidnapped from a picnic point in Harnai district on June 21 staged a protest in front of the Balochistan Assembly on Saturday.

Home Minister Mir Ziaullah Langove, Livestock Minister Bakht Muhammad Kakar and Parliamentary Secretary Obaidullah Gorgage held talks with the protesters and informed them of the efforts being made to recover their loved ones.

Mr Langove later told the media that security institutions were making all possible efforts to recover the victims. (Dawn)
