The Vice President of India, Shri C.P. Radhakrishnan, will visit Sri Lanka from 19 to 20 April 2026. 

According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs of India, this will be the first bilateral visit by the Vice President of India to Sri Lanka.

During his visit, the Indian Vice President will call on the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Disanayaka. 

He will also meet Sri Lankan Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya, as well as other dignitaries and Indian diaspora leaders.

The Ministry of External Affairs of India states Sri Lanka is a key partner in India’s Vision MAHASAGAR as well as its Neighbourhood First Policy. 

The visit of the Indian Vice President to Sri Lanka follows recent high-level engagements between the two nations and will further reinforce the millennia-old people-to-people ties that bind India and Sri Lanka, it added. (Newswire)

Opposition MP V. Radhakrishnan has expressed hope that the National Peoples’ Power (NPP) Government will support his proposal to employ Indian teachers in Tamil medium schools in the estate sector. 

Addressing the Parliament today, MP Radhakrishnan said during his previous tenure as a Minister he had proposed bringing teachers from India to Tamil medium schools in the estate sector.

He said, however, this idea was opposed by the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) at the time. 

“The JVP was the first to oppose my proposal. I hope this government will implement what was opposed by the JVP earlier,” he added.

MP Radhakrishnan made the remarks while speaking in Parliament on the shortage of graduate teachers in Tamil medium schools in the estate sector.

He said that the shortage of teachers was severely impacting the chances of estate sector students to qualify for their Advanced Level Examinations and higher education opportunities, such as entering state universities. (Newswire)
