Cabinet approval has been granted for developing the buildings of main railway stations which are situated in the proximity of the Colombo City. 

According to the government, the Cabinet meeting held in November 2023 recognized the probability of developing the buildings within the railway stations of Wellawatte, Bambalapitiya, Colpetty and Slave Island which are situated in the proximity of Colombo City as commercial centres. 

Accordingly, the Cabinet approved the joint proposal submitted by the Ministers of Transport and Highways and Urban Development and Housing to apply the construct, monitor and handover procedure over the Dehiwala and Mt. Lavinia railway stations apart from those with the public-private partnership and also invite interested investors. (NewsWire)
