Two individuals have been reported dead following a three-wheeler-train collision this morning (09), the Police said. 

According to the Police, a three-wheeler had been struck at the Halpe Railway Crossing between Kapuwatta and Kandana. 

The vehicle had been struck by a train plying from Chilaw to Colombo Fort. 

Two individuals had been inside the three-wheeler at the time of the incident.

They had been rushed to the Ragama Hospital, where they are reported to have succumbed to injuries. (Newswire)

The Orugodawatte to Borella main road will be temporarily closed for traffic next weekend due to repairs related to the Dematagoda Railway crossing. 

The Railway Department says the Orugodawatte-Borella main road will be closed from 09.00 am on Saturday, 24 May, until 06.00 am on Sunday, 25 May for this purpose. 

As the road will be completely closed to traffic, motorists have been requested to use alternative routes during this period. (Newswire)

Motorists were in for a surprise at a railway crossing in Sri Lanka after a wild elephant was seen walking along the railway line, instead of a train. 

According to a video shared on social media, the railway crossing was closed off with the warning alarm on, signalling an oncoming train.
