Former Sri Lanka cricketer Roshan Mahanama has addressed conflict of interest concerns raised over his tenure as team mentor of the Dambulla Sixers for the 2026 edition of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) and member of the Transformation Committee appointed to run Sri Lanka Cricket.

Addressing a media briefing, Mahanama clarified that he was not part of the Dambulla Sixers Franchise as a member of the Cricket Transformation Committee.

“There are various concerns whether I can be in this role, while a member of the Cricket Transformation Committee. Firstly, the appointment as a member of the said committee is on a temporary basis. I am not appointed via a vote or an official appointment by a federation,” he said.

Mahanama further said that when he received his appointment letter from the Sports Minister, he had informed the minister that he was already working with the Dambulla Sixers, Pakistan Super League, and ILT10.

“I had informed in my reply letter that I was already working as a freelance match referee and mentor linked to the Dambulla Sixers, Pakistan Super League, and ILT10,” he said.

Mahanama further reminded that his role with the Dumbulla Sixers began in 2024, much ahead of the current involvement with the Cricket Transformation Committee. (Newswire)

In a significant step to bolster its mission, SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka marked World Children’s Day by hosting a special event, “Together for Children – Ambassador Signing & Partnership Summit.” The ceremony, held at the Radisson Hotel, served to celebrate long-standing partnerships and welcome two prominent national figures as its newest ambassadors.

Celebrated former international cricketer and respected ICC match referee, Roshan Mahanama, was officially appointed as an Ambassador for SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka. Joining him is acclaimed playback singer and recording artist Umaria Sinhawansa, who was appointed as an Ambassador for the organization.

Both Roshan and Umaria have a history of selflessly contributing to similar social causes. In their new roles, they will be instrumental in raising public awareness about children’s rights, empowering the younger generation, and supporting fundraising efforts for children who have lost or are at risk of losing parental care.

“Our goal is to ensure that every child grows up with love, security, and respect. This unique gathering reaffirms that. The extension of Roshan Mahanama’s long-standing support and Umaria Sinhawansa joining us as an ambassador will allow us to capture more public attention and reach even more vulnerable children,” said Mr. Divakar Ratnadurai, National Director of SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka. “It brings us great joy that, together with our partners, we can launch a collective effort to create lasting positive change for children and families across the country.”

The event was also marked by the launch of a special song written for the children of SOS Sri Lanka. The song, a production of SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka, was performed by Umaria Sinhawansa and her sister, Umara Sinhawansa. Its lyrics are woven around the themes of love, unity, and hope.

Through the cooperation of all parties, SOS Children’s Villages Sri Lanka remains committed to its vision: making the belief that ‘every child belongs to a family and should grow up with love, respect, and security’ a reality.
