The Acting Director of the Police Cultural Division, SSP Sathish Gamage, who was arrested for having collected Rs. 14 million in bribes from various parties, has been further remanded. 

SSP Sathish Gamage was further remanded until 02 September by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today. 

The Bribery Commission last week arrested him for having obtained bribes while in charge of the Galle and Embilipitiya Divisions. 

According to the Bribery Commission, SSP Sathish Gamage had opened three bank accounts using another individual’s name and had transferred bribes from organized criminals, people arriving for services related to the Police, and other criminals into the bank accounts. (Newswire)

The Bribery Commission says the Acting Director of the Police Cultural Division, SSP Sathish Gamage, was arrested for having collected Rs. 14 million in bribes from various parties.

Providing details on the arrest, the Bribery Commission said that the Police officer had obtained the bribes while being in charge of the Galle and Embilipitiya Divisions. 

According to the Bribery Commission, SSP Sathish Gamage had opened three bank accounts using another individual’s name. 

He had later transferred bribes obtained from organized criminals, people arriving for services related to the Police, and other criminals, into the three bank accounts.

The Bribery Commission further states that SSP Sathish Gamage was arrested today and has been charged with bribery and money laundering. 

SSP Sathish Gamage is due to be produced before the Colombo Magistrate’s Court today. (Newswire)
