Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa is to be questioned by the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) over the deposit of Rs. 10 million from the National Savings Bank into the Siriliya Saviya account, which she headed, it was reported.

According to state newspaper Dinamina, the investigation concerns the alleged misuse of funds collected under the claim of purchasing a CT scanner for the Lady Ridgeway Hospital for Children in Colombo. It has since been revealed that the scanner was donated free of charge by the Chinese government.

The FCID’s Financial Crimes Investigation Unit has already questioned bank officials and members of the then Board of Directors regarding the deposit. It was disclosed that the money was transferred following a written request made by Siriliya Saviya into its accounts maintained at Maradana and Suduwella branches.

A senior police officer has stated that since Rs. 10 million was obtained from a state bank for the purchase of the CT scanner but not used for the intended purpose, investigations are underway to determine what happened to the money. 

He added that although Shiranthi Rajapaksa was scheduled to be questioned, she was reported to be unwell at the time, and questioning will take place later.

The officer further stated that several questionable matters exist regarding the Siriliya Saviya account, and investigations are continuing. 

He also revealed that Shiranthi Rajapaksa had already been questioned for more than four hours on February 3 regarding the account. (Newswire)

Shiranthi Rajapaksa, wife of former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has arrived at the Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) to record a statement.

She was summoned in connection with an investigation into alleged financial irregularities involving the accounts of the ‘Siriliya’ organization.

She was previously summoned by the FCID on Jan. 27, 2026, to provide a statement.

Through her attorney, she informed police she was unable to attend on that date and requested a two-week extension.

She has since been instructed to appear before the FCID again today, Feb. 3. (Newswire)

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s wife, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, has informed the Police Financial Crimes Investigation Division (FCID) that she is unable to appear today (27) due to personal reasons. 

According to the Police, the notification was made in writing through her lawyer.

She had previously been summoned to appear at 9:00 am today to provide a statement regarding investigations into alleged financial irregularities linked to the “Siriliya” account maintained during former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s tenure.

A group of Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) activists have filed a complaint with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) over recent claims linked to former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and the Malwathu Maha Viharaya in Kandy.

Speaking to reporters, the SLPP activists said that it was claimed on social media that former President Mahinda Rajapaksa had made a request from the Malwathu Maha Viharaya in Kandy seeking its intervention to prevent the arrest of former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. 

“Both former President Mahinda Rajapaksa and representatives of the Malwathu Maha Viharaya in Kandy have refuted these claims, clarifying that they were untrue,” they said. 

The SLPP activists further accused the Presidential media director, Sisira Senpathi Kahawatte for having spread the false information.

“He has released some information on the matter to the media which has resulted in being widely circulated. We have also found that this information has been exchanged on social media by several NPP members in the government, further spreading it. Journalists and social media accounts supporting the NPP have further shared these,” they said. 

Stating that the claims were untrue, the SLPP activists said that this raises doubts about attempts to create unpopular opinions among the public on former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, former first lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, and the Malwathu Maha Viharaya for political advantage. 

As such, they said, a complaint has been filed with the CID today seeking a comprehensive investigation into the matter. (Newswire)

Deputy Minister of Labour Mahinda Jayasinghe has informed Parliament that a Criminal Investigations Department (CID) probe has been requested into land deals involving former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa in Gampaha. 

Addressing the Parliament today, Mahinda Jayasinghe said a request has been made from the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) in this regard.

The Deputy Minister said the lands in the Imbulgoda and Makola areas had been purchased in 2012 and sold in 2023.

He revealed in Parliament that a plot of land purchased in Ihala Imbulgoda in 2012 under the Mahinda Rajapaksa Spiritual Foundation for Rs. 500,000 has been sold for Rs. 10 million, adding that the owner of the land is one Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa of Carlton House Tangalle.

Mahinda Jayasinghe further said that another plot of land in Makola that was purchased for Rs. 01 million has been sold for Rs. 12 million, of which the owner was Shiranthi Wickramasinghe Rajapaksa of Carlton House Tangalle.

The Deputy Minister of Labour said inquiries into the land deals have revealed that the deeds had been drawn up and signed at the Temple Trees and had been transferred in 2023 to a person residing in Nugegoda.

Addressing recent media reports that he had forcibly entered lands belonging to Buddhist Temples and monks, Mahinda Jayasinghe Jayasinghe produced documents to claim that the lands belonged to ordinary citizens.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Office has refuted allegations made by the Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya, concerning former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa.

The Chief Incumbent of the Mihintale Raja Maha Viharaya, the Ven. Walahahengunawewe Dhammaratana Thera had allegedly claimed that former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa was receiving multiple pensions.

Refuting the allegations, former President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s Office said in a statement that the claims by Ven. Walahahengunawewe Dhammaratana Thera are based on unverified information.
