The Siri Dalada Vandanawa, the special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, will end on 27 April as scheduled, the Diyawadana Nilame of the Sri Dalada Maligawa, Pradeep Nilanga Dela, announced today.

Addressing the media, Pradeep Nilanga Dela said the decision has been taken taking into consideration the large crowds that have arrived in Kandy for this purpose and the facilities afforded to them.

He said a discussion was held in this regard with the President, relevant officials and religious leaders yesterday, after which it was decided to conclude the exposition on the planned date.

Two Police officers have passed away while on duty at the Siri Dalada Vandanawa underway in Kandy. 

According to the Police Media Unit, the officers had died after suffering heart attacks. 

The Siri Dalada Vandanawa, a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, is underway for the eighth consecutive day today.

The event, which was inaugurated by the President on 18 April, will continue until 27 April.

Large crowds have been reported for the event, being held after 16 years, with the Police and military being deployed for crowd control. (Newswire)

The veneration time of the ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’, a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic at the Sri Dalada Maligawa in Kandy, has been extended. 

Issuing a special notice, the Sri Dalada Maligawa said the veneration time has been extended due to large crowds arriving for the exposition.

As such, the Sri Dalada Maligawa announced that the veneration time has been extended by an hour and will now be conducted from 11.00 am to 5.30 pm.

The ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’, a special exposition of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy, was inaugurated by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake today, after a period of 16 years.

Following the inauguration, the President paid homage to the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha, after which it was opened to the public.

Several foreign diplomats, including Ambassadors and High Commissioners, were also present on the occasion. 

At the request of the President, the ‘Siri Dalada Vandanawa’ was organised under the guidance of the Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri Chapters, and under the direction of the Diyawadana Nilame of the historic Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic in Kandy.
