Three officers attached to Police Stations in the Matara Division have been suspended from duty over misconduct at a spa in Matara.

The suspension order was issued by the Acting Superintendent of Police (ASP) for the Matara Division.

The three officers had reportedly visited a spa located in the Walgama area of Matara, where they engaged in a heated verbal exchange with the manager. 

They then allegedly attempted to obtain services from the establishment free of charge.

Following a complaint, an investigation was conducted, and the officers were found guilty of the allegations.

As a result, disciplinary action was taken against them on charges of conduct detrimental to police discipline, misusing their official position for personal gain, and engaging in disgraceful and corrupt behaviour.

The officers were identified as Sub-Inspectors serving at the Matara Division Intelligence Unit and the police stations in Thihagoda and Mawarala.

The owner of a Spa, who had recruited three young women from Indonesia to work as therapists but had forced them into the sex trade, has been sentenced to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment. 

Issuing the judgement today, the Colombo High Court said the sentence should be served in 05 years and further ordered the suspect to pay the three victims Rs. 250,000 each as compensation.

The court also warned that a one-year simple sentence would be issued if the suspect failed to settle the compensation. 

The suspect was arrested following a raid conducted by the Walana Anti-Crimes Unit in 2011, after which the Attorney General had filed a case under three charges. (Newswire)

The Bambalapitiya Police have arrested six suspects for stealing over Rs. 1 million in cash by threatening and assaulting an individual, who had been lured under the guise of operating a spa.

The suspects had assaulted the victim and threatened him with a knife forcing him to make an online transfer of Rs. 01 million, while they had also stolen Rs. 15,000 that was inside the victim’s wallet.

Based on a complaint filed with the Bambalapitiya Police on the robbery which took place last Friday, an investigation had been launched leading to the arrest of a couple.

The couple, a man aged 44 years and a woman aged 54 years, had been arrested along with the three-wheeler used to carry out the crime.

Interrogation of the suspect had led to the arrest of four more suspects, aged between 19 to 23 years, and residents of the Ratmalana and Mount Lavinia areas.

Sri Lanka Police have busted over 50 brothels that had been operating under the guise of Ayurvedic Spas in Negombo, leading to the discovery of two women, including a minor, testing positive for HIV.

The Ayurvedic spas, which had been operated illegally, were raided over the last week based on a tip-off, after which measures were taken to shut down 53 spas.

According to the Police, the raids were launched after an individual addicted to alcohol had been subjected to a medical examination during which he was found to have tested positive for HIV.

Further investigations revealed that the man, a resident of Kochchikade in Negombo, was a frequent visitor to a spa in the Negombo area.

This information led to the Police inspecting spas in the area, during which 120 young women had been taken into custody and subjected to medical examinations. 

The Police said among the women, two, including a 15-year-old girl had tested positive for HIV. 

Investigations have revealed that the minor had left home over a dispute with her relatives after which she had been sold to a spa by an individual.

The Police said one person who had engaged in sexual activities with the minor had been arrested and remanded.

Eight other spa workers who had also contracted other social diseases had been identified during the raids. 

Following the inspections, the Police have taken measures to shut down over 50 illegally operated spas in the Kochchikade and Seeduwa areas in Negombo. (NewsWire)

An individual has been found dead at a spa in Kandana early today.

The Police stated that the deceased has been identified as a 42-year-old man and a resident of the Nagoda area in Kandana.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the man had visited the spa at midnight yesterday.

He had reportedly passed away at the spa early this morning.

The Police suspect that the man may have died due to a sudden heart attack.
