President Anura Kumara Dissanayake said that cabinet approval has been granted to recruit nearly 62,000 people for state jobs.

Speaking at the National Youth Conference at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium in Colombo, Dissanayake said the government would not recruit in bulk as previous administrations had done.

“We won’t do recruitment by the bulk — 100,000 to 150,000 like previous governments. Instead, we have identified the cadre necessary to strengthen the state services and will do recruitment accordingly,” he said.

The president added that the government is not a “job-supplier,” but is focused on generating employment to address the country’s unemployment issue. (Newswire)

Cabinet approval has been granted to implement the recommendations of the Committee appointed to review the public sector recruitment process and submit recommendations for staff management. 

The officer’s committee appointed under the Secretary to the Prime Minister for this purpose has submitted recommendations in its second report.

The report has recommended recruiting 2,003 persons from 4,987 existing vacancies in institutions under 11 ministries and 05 provincial councils. 

Accordingly, the Cabinet of Ministers approved the proposal submitted by the Prime Minister to execute the said recommendations. (Newswire)
