An 11-year-old boy has succumbed to injuries sustained after being assaulted by his stepfather in Kattankudy.

According to the Police, the child had been assaulted by the suspect while at home on Wednesday (08) and had been admitted to the Batticaloa Hospital where he was receiving treatment in the Intensive Care Unit.

The Kattankudy Police had launched an investigation following a complaint filed by the child’s biological father.

The 26-year-old suspect, who is a resident of Matale was arrested on Wednesday night and produced before the Batticaloa Magistrate after which he was remanded until 14th February.

However, the child succumbed to injuries while receiving treatment at the ICU of the Batticaloa Hospital last afternoon (09).

The Kattankudy Police is conducting further investigations into the incident. (NewsWire)
