Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of a man in Koratota, Nawagamuwa, on July 16.

The arrests were made last evening (19) by officers of the Homagama Division Crimes Investigation Unit, following intelligence received during the probe. 

Police said the motorcycle rider involved in the killing and another suspect who assisted in the crime were taken into custody at Delgoda in the Biyagama Police Division and Wandurammulla in the Nawagamuwa Police Division. 

The motorcycle used in the murder was also seized. The suspects, aged 21 and 29, are residents of Ranala and Pallama.

Further investigations are being carried out by the Homagama Division Crimes Investigation Unit. (Newswire)

Sri Lanka Police have sought assistance from the public to locate three suspects wanted in connection with the tragic death of six persons after a cab drove into a group of people waiting in a queue at a Dansal in Meegoda on May 31.

The incident occurred along the Avissawella–Colombo High Level Road near the Meegoda Junction, leaving six dead and seven others seriously injured. 

The driver was arrested and produced before the Homagama Magistrate’s Court on June 01 and has since been remanded until June 16.

Investigations revealed that three other individuals were travelling in the cab at the time of the accident. The Police said the men fled the vehicle when the driver was taken into custody. 

Two special investigation teams have been deployed to track them down, and the public has been urged to assist in identifying the suspects.

Sri Lanka Police have arrested three suspects in connection with the gruesome killing of a man in Mamadala Junction, Ambalantota, where the victim was shot, hacked to death, and his severed head placed on a statue before the attackers fled.

One suspect was taken into custody by Ambalantota Police yesterday (12), while two others were arrested the same day by the Tangalle Division Crime Investigation Unit. 

According to the Police, all three are residents of the Ambalantota area.

Investigations have revealed that the murder was carried out as an act of revenge for a triple homicide reported from the Alegoda Mamadala area on February 2, 2025.

Police said the father of the victim’s wife, who was assaulted during the attack, is currently receiving inpatient treatment at Hambantota Hospital.

The suspects are being held for further questioning as inquiries continue into the violent crime. (Newswire)

The Police have sought public support to locate two individuals wanted in connection with the disappearance of a man from the Grandpass area.

According to the Police, a woman had filed a complaint claiming that her son, a resident of the Sedawatte area in Grandpass, had been missing since October 11. 

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the missing man was last seen at a party with two individuals and has been missing since then.

The two individuals who had participated in the party are reported not to be in their areas of residence since the day of the party, while no information has been uncovered on them.

As such, the Police said the two individuals need to be arrested to locate the missing man.

The Police have arrested six suspects, including the alleged shooter, two male accomplices, and two female suspects, as of Wednesday (12), following investigations into the shooting incident that occurred in Kotahena on November 07.

CCTV footage of the incident shows a black car being driven away after shooting the victim from behind. 

Through further investigations, the Colombo Crimes Division was able to identify the suspect who drove the vehicle along with the shooter, and this individual was arrested in the Colombo 13 area yesterday.

Alongside this suspect, a female accomplice who had provided shelter at a residence in Maharagama for the suspects to carry out the crime was also arrested at the same location on the same day by the Colombo Crimes Division.

It has been revealed that members of an organized criminal gang operating from overseas were behind the orchestration of the shooting. 

The two suspects arrested most recently are now in custody and are expected to be interrogated by the Colombo Crimes Division. (Newswire)

The Colombo Divisional Crime Division has arrested five suspects in connection with a recent fatal shooting in Kotahena, in which a man was killed. 

According to the Police Media Division, investigations into the murder were launched by the Colombo Divisional Crimes Unit shortly after the incident, and the suspects were arrested on Sunday (09) and yesterday (10). 

During the arrests, authorities also seized a motor vehicle and a mobile phone in the Chenmani junction area in Jaffna along the A9 highway, believed to be linked to the crime.

Three suspects are aged between 18 and 33, while the two female suspects are 24 and 26 years old. All five are reportedly residents of Grandpass and Wellampitiya.

The Sri Lankan Police have arrested 15 persons wanted for their direct involvement in crimes across the country.

According to the Police, the suspects were arrested during multiple operations conducted on Sunday to curb drug and crime-related activities in Sri Lanka. 

A total of 27,654 persons were inspected during the operations conducted yesterday. 

Among them, 15 were arrested for their direct involvement in crimes, and 674 were arrested on suspicion.

The Police also arrested 220 persons against whom warrants had been issued, and 155 against whom open warrants had been issued. (Newswire)

Two suspects have been arrested over various crimes, including the recent shootings in the Hirana and Pinwatte areas in Panadura.

According to the Police, a 38-year-old man from Arukgoda was arrested on Sunday with 02.2 grams of ICE, 07 mobile phones and a motorcycle. 

The suspect was arrested in Arukgoda, following a raid conducted by officials from the Kalutara Crimes Division.

Following interrogations, the suspect was found to be the gunman in the shooting incident in Hirana in July, in which an individual was injured, while he had also aided the shooting targeting a house in the Pinwatte area in May this year

Based on information from the suspect, the officials arrested another 38-year-old man from Horana in the Batuwita area yesterday. 

The officers seized 2.1 grams of ICE, a T-56 firearm, and 30 live ammunition for the weapon.

The Police have sought public assistance to apprehend three suspects wanted in connection with the possession of weapons. 

According to the Police, one suspect was arrested with a T-56 firearm during a raid in Kiribathgoda in July 2025.

Based on information from the suspect, the Police arrested another suspect with a hand grenade in Vavuniya. 

Following interrogations, the Police uncovered information about one suspect in possession of a hand grenade and two more suspects involved with him. 

Despite the Vavuniya Police taking measures to arrest the suspects, they were found to have fled their areas of residence. 

As such, the Police have sought public help to arrest the three men aged 30 and 27 years.

Eight suspects have been arrested in connection to the double murder that was reported in the Grandpass area last week.

Two youths aged 23 and 24 years were killed after being attacked with sharp objects during a clash between two groups at Jabos Lane in Grandpass on Saturday.

Following investigations launched by the Grandpass Police, eight suspects were arrested in Wellampitiya last night.

The arrested suspects are aged between 16 and 44 years and are residents of Wellampitiya.

Minister of Public Security Ananda Wijepala has called for a report from the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP) regarding the deaths of the suspects involved in the recent shooting in Kotahena.

Minister Wijepala told Newswire, that the Acting IGP has been requested to submit the report as soon as possible. 

On 21 February, two individuals on a motorcycle had shot a 38-year-old man at a mobile phone shop on Kotahena Street and fled the area.

The two suspects linked to the shooting were arrested on the same day along with a T-56 assault rifle and the motorcycle used in the shooting. 

Later that night, officers took the suspects to another location after receiving information about a concealed weapon. 

As the suspects had attempted to fire at the Police, the officers were prompted to return fire during which both suspects sustained injuries and died at the hospital. (Newswire)

The Homagama Magistrate’s Court has granted bail to eight suspects who were arrested and remanded over the murder of businessman Surendra Wasantha Perera alias ‘Club Wasantha’ in Athurugiriya in July this year. 

The suspects were yesterday released under strict conditions, and each on a cash bail of Rs. 100,000 and two surety bails. 

The Homagama Magistrate also imposed an overseas travel ban on the suspects, ordering them to hand over their passports to the court.

The suspects were further ordered to report to the Athurugiriya Police Station every Sunday. 

Club Wasantha was shot dead by unknown gunmen while attending the opening of a tattoo parlour in Athurugiriya in July.

Three police personnel of the Aduruppu Veediya Police Station have been interdicted over the incident of two suspects detained over a recent shooting being poisoned in prison. 

Police Spokesman SSP Nihal Thalduwa said that the officers had been on duty at the time when a visitor had provided poisoned packets of milk to the suspects placed under detention over the shooting in Jinthupitiya. 

After consuming the milk packets yesterday, the suspects fell unconscious and had been admitted in serious condition to the Colombo National Hospital.

The suspects are a 27-year-old resident of Serunuwara and a 29-year-old resident of Colombo 13.
