A large‑scale technical support Shramadana programme was carried out today at 33 hospitals across the country to mark the 31st anniversary of the Sri Lanka Vocational Training Authority (SLVTA). 

According to the President’s Media Division (PMD), the initiative was conducted in collaboration with the Clean Sri Lanka national programme.

The main event took place at Castle Street Women’s Hospital in Colombo under the patronage of Deputy Minister of Vocational Education Nalin Hewage.

Unlike conventional Shramadana campaigns, the programme enabled Generation Z volunteers and vocational training students to apply their practical skills in electronics, electrical work, plumbing, building maintenance, mechanical repairs, and environmental cleaning. 

The effort focused on strengthening hospital infrastructure, improving sanitation, and supporting the public healthcare system.

Conducted under the Clean Sri Lanka concept, the initiative also emphasized environmental cleanliness, attitudinal change, protection of public property, and sustainable national development. 

Organizers highlighted the role of young people in nation‑building, not merely as “opportunity seekers” but as “opportunity creators.”

The programme reinforced the Navy’s and other state agencies’ commitment to environmental stewardship and showcased the contribution of Sri Lanka’s youth to both healthcare and national development. (Newswire)
