Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna achieved their career-best ratings of 674 points and 368 points, respectively, after their memorable performances in the Oval Test against England.

While Player of the Match in the fifth Test, Siraj climbed 12 places to grab 15th spot in the latest ICC Men’s Test Bowler Rankings, fellow pacer Krishna moved 25 places to rank 59th in the list after picking up eight wickets in the deciding Test, which India won by six runs.

This is both Siraj and Krishna’s highest-ever position in the Test ranking, after churning out match-winning spells in the final Test against England.

England pacers Gus Atkinson and Josh Tongue have also attained their career-best positions after snapping eight wickets each in the Oval Test. While Atkinson breaks into the top 10 for the first time, Tongue is up 14 places to secure the 46th position in the rankings table.

The Oval centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal gained three spots to break into the top five for Test batters with 792 rating points, even as the other centurions in the game, Joe Root and Harry Brook, continue to firmly hold the first two positions in the ICC Men’s Test Batter Rankings.

From the Zimbabwe-New Zealand series, Daryl Mitchell jumped up four places to break into the top 10 of the batter rankings, while teammate Matt Henry sits pretty in fourth spot, jumping three rungs ahead with a career-best 817 rating points, while continuing his shorter formats form into red-ball cricket as well.

In T20I rankings news, Australia’s Tim David gained two spots to grab the 16th position thanks to a blistering century against the West Indies, as Pakistan opener Saim Ayub leapfrogged to 37th position, climbing 25 positions after his stellar show in Florida.

The highest T20I wicket-getter for the West Indies, Jason Holder, improved 23 spots to equal Keshav Maharaj in 32nd spot in the ICC Men’s T20I Bowler Rankings. (ICC)

Sri Lanka’s star female cricketer Chamari Athapaththu has been named in the ICC Women’s ODI Team of the Year 2024.

Describing Chamari Athapaththu, the ICC states;

458 runs and 9 wickets in 9 matches

Chamari Athapaththu had a delayed start to her ODI year, playing her first match in April, but she wasted no time making an impact. She struck a half-century in the second ODI against South Africa before producing a career-best knock of 195* in the final match.

Her outstanding form carried into Sri Lanka’s home series against West Indies, where the team secured a 3-0 clean sweep. Athapaththu played a pivotal role, smashing a brilliant 91 in the final ODI, narrowly missing out on a century by just nine runs.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka’s Kamindu Mendis has been included in the ICC Men’s Test Team of the Year 2024.

Kamindu Mendis is the only Sri Lankan cricketer to be named in the Men’s team. Describing the cricketer, the ICC states;

Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced the online sale of tickets for the Warne-Murali Test Series between Sri Lanka and Australia.

Issuing a statement, the SLC said tickets for the series are now available online for purchase via www.srilankacricket.lk 

Meanwhile, counters will be opened at Vidya Mawatha in Colombo and at the Galle International Cricket Stadium from 9 am to 5 pm.

The Warne-Murali Test Series between Sri Lanka and Australia will kick off on  27th January. 

The SLC also announced that tickets for the ODI leg will be sold starting from 07th February. (Newswire)

The Pakistan Men’s National Team will arrive in Sri Lanka in July 2023 to take part in a two-match test series against Sri Lanka. 

According to Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC), the test series is a part of the ICC World Test Championship 2023–25 cycle.

Australia and India have been hit with big fines for slow over rates during the ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval.

India slipped to defeat on day five of the WTC Final, losing by 209 runs to an inspired Australia in south London.

And it was confirmed shortly after the conclusion of the match on Sunday’s final day that India will lose all of their match fees for their slow over rate, with Australia also docked 80 percent of their match fees.

India were ruled to be five overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration, while Australia were found to be four overs short. In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, players are fined 20 per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time.

India’s Shubman Gill will also face a further sanction for appearing to criticise the decision to give him out on the fourth day of the Test, breaching article 2.7 which relates to public criticism or inappropriate comment in relation to an incident occurring in an international match.

The young opener was fined a further 15% of his match fee, meaning he will have to pay money back as part of his punishment given he has effectively incurred 115% of match fees in fines.

Television umpire Richard Kettleborough adjudged that a catch by Cameron Green to remove Gill had been taken cleanly. Gill took to social media later in the day to make a post that appeared to question the decision.

Seven wickets fell before lunch on the fifth day as India’s hopes of a remarkable victory vanished on a bright and humid Sunday morning in south London.

An additional 15 minutes were taken at the end of the session to allow the final wicket to be taken, and Nathan Lyon did the honours when he picked up the scalp of Mohammed Siraj to secure Australia the World Test Championship title. (ICC)
