A Thai national woman was handed a five-year suspended prison sentence by the Pottuvil Magistrate’s Court after pleading guilty to charges of indecent behaviour and causing public disturbance in Arugam Bay.

The 26-year-old woman was arrested after a photo circulated on social media showing her walking topless near the entrance of a hotel in the tourist zone. The woman was produced in court today and where she admitted to the offences.

The court imposed two weeks’ and one month’s imprisonment for the respective charges, suspended for five years.

Police said that a personal dispute with her partner led to the incident. (Newswire)

A Thai woman has been arrested at the Katunayake Airport with around 5 kilos of Crystal Methamphetamine (ICE).

Sri Lanka Customs said the seized stock of ‘ICE’ is valued at around Rs. 100 million.

The arrested suspect is a 33-year-old Thai woman who had arrived from Malaysia early this morning.

She was arrested at the green channel by officers of the Narcotics Control Unit at the Katunayake Airport. 

The stock of drugs was found concealed in food packages in the suspect’s baggage. 

Sri Lanka Customs together with the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) is conducting investigations into the incident. (Newswire)
