Indian Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, will undertake an official state visit to Sri Lanka from 04 to 06 April 2025, Sri Lanka’s Foreign Ministry announced.

Accordingly, during this visit, Prime Minister Modi is expected to hold bilateral talks with President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka and Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya.

While in Sri Lanka, the Indian Prime Minister is scheduled to visit Anuradhapura to pay homage to the sacred Sri Maha Bodhi and will inaugurate several projects implemented in Sri Lanka with the assistance of the Government of India.

Several Memoranda of Understanding inked between the two countries are also expected to be exchanged during this visit.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will be accompanied by the Minister of External Affairs, the National Security Advisor, the Foreign Secretary and other senior officials of the Government of India.

Providing details on the visit, India’s External Affairs Ministry said that PM Shri Narendra Modi is travelling to Sri Lanka at the invitation of the Sri Lankan President, Anura Kumara Dissanayaka.

The ministry further said that, during the visit, PM Modi will hold discussions with the President of Sri Lanka to review progress made on the areas of cooperation agreed upon in the Joint Vision for “Fostering Partnerships for a Shared Future” adopted during the Sri Lankan President’s State Visit to India. 

The Indian Prime Minister last visited Sri Lanka in 2019. Earlier, the President of Sri Lanka paid a state visit to India as his first visit abroad after assuming office.

This visit is part of regular high-level engagements between the countries and will lend further momentum in deepening the multi-faceted partnership between India and Sri Lanka,” India’s External Affairs Ministry said. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to travel to Sri Lanka in April, Indian media, WION reported. 

Citing Sri Lankan sources, the report states the visit is still firming up and could happen around 5th April.

PM Modi’s visit is expected to focus on a range of issues, including connectivity and economic ties.

The invitation for this visit was extended by Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara Dissanayake during his two-day trip to India in mid-December 2024, the first overseas visit after being elected in September 2024.

This will not be PM Modi’s first visit to Sri Lanka, as he has previously visited the island nation multiple times, including in 2015, 2017, and 2019 during his earlier terms. (Newswire)

The Department of Prisons has made special arrangements for visitations for Hindu prisoners in view of the Thai Pongal Festival, celebrated tomorrow (14 Jan).

Accordingly, relatives of Hindu inmates will be provided an opportunity to meet the inmates with arrangements being made at prisons nationwide. 

The department has instructed visitors to only bring food sufficient for one inmate during their visit.

The visitations have been arranged in accordance with health guidelines and according to the prison rules. (Newswire)
