Police have appealed to the public for assistance in locating a 38‑year‑old resident of Ragama who has been sentenced to death in connection with a 2019 murder case.

The Negombo High Court imposed the death penalty after the convict was found guilty of murdering a woman in the Walpola area of the Ragama Police Division. 

The sentence was delivered in absentia under provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code, as the convict failed to appear before court.

Sri Lanka Police have appealed to the public for assistance in locating a suspect wanted in connection with the break‑in at the Dambulla Divisional Secretariat Office on 12 June 2026, where files were removed and property damaged.

According to the Police, investigations by the Dambulla Police Station uncovered photographs and video footage of the suspect, which have now been circulated to media institutions to aid in the search.

Police said the same suspect has also been identified as wanted for a previous incident involving the break‑in and theft at the Thambuttegama Divisional Secretariat Office.

Sri Lanka Police has sought the assistance of the public to arrest a suspect wanted over an acid attack carried out against a woman in the Mawathagama Police Division on December 10, 2025. 

According to the Police, facts were presented to the Pilessa Magistrate’s Court after the incident, while the suspect is reported to have fled the area. 

As such, the Police have requested public assistance to apprehend the suspect, who is a resident of Kalawana.

The Police have sought public assistance to find a Pakistani national wanted in connection with a large haul of heroin that was found off the coast of Sri Lanka in 2016.

Seventeen suspects were arrested along with 111.82 kilos of heroin during a raid conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy and the Police Narcotics Bureau (PNB) in Sri Lankan waters in April 2016.

Legal action was filed against the suspects, after which the wanted Pakistani national was released on bail in July this year, on bail conditions that he reports to the Police Narcotics Bureau every Sunday. 

The Police said the suspect had failed to adhere to the bail conditions, prompting the Police to present facts before the High Court, after which an arrest warrant was issued for him.

Sri Lanka Police have sought the assistance of the public to apprehend a suspect wanted for having robbed a female foreign tourist in Hikkaduwa.

According to the Police, the suspect had entered the house in which the tourist was residing in the Wawulagoda area on January 21, 2024.

The suspect had stolen several items, including cash worth Rs. 760,000 and two ATM cards.

The Police said the suspect had been identified after monitoring CCTV footage as part of the investigations into the robbery.

A suspect wanted over the recent shooting incident in the Polpithimukalana area in Kandana has been killed in a shootout with the Police early today (Oct 16).

The Police stated that the suspect was wanted over a shooting incident reported in a house in the Polpithimukalana area in Kandana on October 05.

The Kandana Police had conducted a raid after receiving a tipoff that the man was hiding in a house at Samindhu Mawatha in Pamunuwila in Sapugaskanda. 

During the raid the suspect had opened fire at the Police officers who had arrived to apprehend him, prompting them to retaliate by shooting at the suspect.

The suspect had died in the shootout, while the body was placed at the Kiribathgoda Hospital.

The deceased has been identified as a 49-year-old resident of Angoda. (NewsWire)
