The price of wheat flour will be increased from today (29), Prima Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd said, citing higher transport costs.

According to the company, the price of a kilogram of Prima “Milk” brand flour has been raised by Rs. 5. 

As a result, the price of a kilogram of wheat flour, which previously stood at Rs. 220, is now Rs. 225. (Newswire)

A large stock of wheat flour unfit for human consumption, which was to be released to the local market, has been seized from a warehouse in Uswetakeiyawa, Wattala. 

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) said the stock of wheat flour was found based on additional information collected during a raid conducted in the Pettah area. 

As such, CAA officials seized 750 tonnes of wheat flour unfit for human consumption from the warehouse in Wattala yesterday. 

The stock of wheat flour had expiry dates of March and May 2024 but had been adjusted to 2025, while it was also found to be severely infested with insects.

The CAA, which had taken custody of the wheat flour stock, is conducting further investigations. (Newswire)

The permit system for the import of wheat flour has been suspended, State Minister of Finance Ranjith Siyambalapitiya announced today. 

State Minister Siyambalapitiya stated that the suspension was effective from midnight yesterday (Aug. 29). 

He further stated that the Import Tax on 1 kilo of wheat flour has been increased from Rs. 16 to Rs. 27. (NewsWire)

Sri Lanka’s primary wheat flour importers, Prima Ceylon (Pvt) Ltd and Serendib Flour Mills (Pvt) Ltd have announced a reduction in the price of their wheat flour products.

Accordingly, the price of Serendib and Prima wheat flour has been reduced by Rs. 10 per kilo.

According to the Association, the price of a Kilo of Wheat Flour has been increased by Rs.10.

The prices of several essential food items have been reduced due to the strengthening of the Sri Lankan Rupee against the US Dollar.

The Serandib and Prima Flour Companies have announced that the price of their Wheat Flour products will be reduced by Rs.15 per kilo from today.

Meanwhile, the Essential Food Commodities’ Importers and Traders Association stated that the strengthening of the Sri Lankan Rupee has resulted in a drop in wholesale prices of imported food commodities by around 10%.

The Association further stated that thereby, the wholesale prices of imported Sugar, Dhal and Onions have been reduced by Rs.30 per kilogram.

Earlier today, the All Ceylon Bakery Owners’ Association announced a reduction in the price of a 450-gram loaf of bread.
