Xapi, the unified governance platform spanning Data, API and AI Governance, today announced the launch of the Xapi Personal Data Protection Compliance Playbook, a practical implementation guide designed to help Sri Lankan organisations translate the Personal Data Protection Act into structured, operational and evidence-ready governance.

The launch comes as organisations across Sri Lanka prepare for the next phase of PDPA implementation, with core provisions scheduled to come into effect from 1 January 2027.

Developed as an implementation resource, the approximately 160-page Playbook centres on Xapi’s six-layer implementation framework and a four-level maturity model that allows organisations to assess their current state, identify priority gaps and determine what to address next. It also includes a Sri Lankan enterprise case study, leadership checklist and PDPA Gap and Readiness Audit.

Prabath Ariyarathna, CEO and Chief Architect of Xapi, said the challenge facing organisations is increasingly one of implementation rather than awareness.

“There has been considerable discussion around what the PDPA requires, but the real challenge is operationalising it. Compliance cannot live only in policies or spreadsheets; organisations need visibility into their data and the controls applied to it.This Playbook helps make that transition from understanding the law to building evidence-ready governance in practice.”

Shanaka Mendis, Head of Sales at Xapi, said the Playbook is intended to give organisations a practical starting point.

“Many organisations know PDPA readiness matters, but the question we hear most is, ‘Where do we start?’ The Playbook gives leaders and compliance teams a common framework to assess their position and build a roadmap towards compliance.”

By combining education, assessment and implementation guidance in one resource, Xapi aims to help organisations move beyond interpretation of the Act towards a practical question: whether they can consistently govern personal data, apply controls and produce evidence that those controls are working.

Xapi is a unified governance platform designed to simplify oversight across Data, APIs and AI for forward-thinking enterprises. Headquartered in Singapore, with leadership and operational support in Sri Lanka, Xapi serves enterprise clients and infrastructure-critical industries worldwide. The platform is a fully owned product of X-Venture.

Ocean Lanka (Pvt) Ltd, one of Sri Lanka’s leading weftknitted fabric manufacturers, marks its 30th anniversary this year, celebrating three decades of manufacturing excellence, innovation and responsible growth while looking ahead to a future shaped by advanced manufacturing, sustainability and highervalue fabric solutions.

Since its establishment in 1996, Ocean Lanka has evolved alongside Sri Lanka’s apparel industry, continuously strengthening its manufacturing capabilities and building long-standing relationships with customers, partners and stakeholders. Over three decades, the company has navigated changing global market conditions, technological advancements and evolving customer expectations, while maintaining a strong focus on quality, reliability and continuous improvement.

Innovation has remained an important pillar of this journey. Through continued investment in research and development, product innovation, technology and operational excellence, Ocean Lanka has strengthened its ability to develop functional and performancedriven fabric solutions for increasingly sophisticated global requirements. Its work in textile research and commercialisation has also received national recognition, reinforcing the company’s ambition to compete through innovation and greater value creation.

Sustainability has developed alongside this transformation as a key component of Ocean Lanka’s long-term direction. The company has progressively strengthened its approach to energy and resource efficiency, responsible chemical management, waste reduction and environmentally responsible manufacturing, supported by internationally recognised standards and industry initiatives.

Commenting on the milestone, Andrew Yau, Chairman of Ocean Lanka, said, “Thirty years is an important milestone for Ocean Lanka, but it is also an opportunity to look towards what comes next. As our industry continues to evolve, our future will depend on our ability to innovate, embrace technology, operate more sustainably and create greater value for our customers. We have built a strong foundation over the past three decades, and we are committed to building an even stronger and more futureready Ocean Lanka.”

Ocean Lanka continues to invest in developing its people and strengthening technical capabilities to prepare its workforce for an increasingly technology and knowledgedriven industry.

To commemorate its 30th anniversary, Ocean Lanka organised a series of meaningful activities reflecting gratitude for its journey and optimism for the future. Thirty trees were planted at the Ocean Lanka premises, each symbolising a year of the company’s growth. Employees celebrating 30 years of service joined Chairman Andrew Yau, the management team and fellow employees for the initiative, creating a meaningful connection between the company’s legacy and the future it seeks to build.

The anniversary was also marked with a Pirith Chanting Ceremony and an Almsgiving offered to 30 members of the Maha Sangha, providing an opportunity to reflect on the company’s threedecade journey with gratitude and invoke blessings for its people and continued progress.

As Ocean Lanka enters its fourth decade, its focus is firmly on the future. With the global textile and apparel industry being reshaped by technology, sustainability and growing demand for innovative and highperformance materials, the company intends to further strengthen its research and development capabilities, expand its highervalue product portfolio, embrace advanced manufacturing technologies and advance responsible manufacturing practices.

Building on three decades of experience, Ocean Lanka aims to contribute further to Sri Lanka’s position as a highvalue textile and apparel manufacturing destination while strengthening its role as a trusted and futureready manufacturing partner to global customers.

For Ocean Lanka, 30 years represents not only a celebration of what has been achieved, but the foundation for what comes next a future driven by innovation, technology, sustainability and people.

On 27 September 2026, ITC Ratnadipa Colombo will host Ceylon Gemlogue 2026, a gathering unlike anything Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery industry has seen before. For the first time, world-record-holding cutters, international luxury voices, mining scientists, government policymakers and the country’s most influential traders will converge on a single stage to chart the next chapter of Ceylon gems.

Presented by Ceylon Gem Chronicles, Ceylon Gemlogue 2026 is designed not simply as another industry conference, but as a meeting point between Sri Lanka’s extraordinary gem heritage and the ideas, expertise and international relationships, combining with an immersive expedition through Sri Lanka’s gem heritage, a high-level international conference, an exclusive VVIP dinner and a world-class gemstone cutting masterclass that could shape its next chapter.

Beginning on 24 September, the Gemlogue Expedition will take international delegates into Ratnapura’s mining regions and gem markets in Beruwala, as well as through Yala, and Galle. The journey is designed not only to reveal the origins of Ceylon gems, but also to showcase Sri Lanka’s wildlife, heritage, culture, coastal destinations and hospitality to international visitors.

Ceylon Gemlogue features an exceptional international line-up including Katerina Perez, one of the leading voices in high jewellery and luxury; Victor Tuzlukov, multiple Guinness World Record holder in gemstone cutting; Peter Lyckberg, internationally respected geologist and mineral explorer; The Mansoor Siblings, materials scientist and gemmological education specialist; and renowned gem cutter and author Justin K. Prim.

The main conference on 27 September at ITC Ratnadipa Colombo is also set to feature a major Leadership Panel bringing together the Hon. Deputy Minister of Industries and Entrepreneurship Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe, the Chairman of the National Gem & Jewellery Authority, Prof.S. P. Chaminda and three international experts to discuss the future of Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery industry.

It is a conversation the industry has long called for: the people who set policy sitting down, in public, with the people who shape global demand.

The event seeks to position Sri Lanka beyond its traditional identity as a source of exceptional gemstones, focusing on craftsmanship, value addition, branding, innovation, education and sustainable development.

Ceylon Gemlogue 2026 is endorsed by the Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association (SLGJA), the Ceylon Gem & Jewellery Traders Association (CGJTA) and the Lanka Gem Dealers & Miners Association (LGDMA) – the Associations behind Sri Lanka’s major international gem exhibitions, coming together for a shared vision.

“Sri Lanka has never been defined solely by resources, but by the minds and hands capable of transforming them,” the organisers note. “While the world knows us as a source of exceptional stones, the future lies in mastering cutting, design and value creation. Gemlogue exists to move Sri Lanka beyond being a source of gems and towards becoming a hub of craftsmanship and global influence.”

With an extraordinary line-up of international names, access to some of Sri Lanka’s most fascinating gem destinations, an exclusive VVIP evening and the opportunity to engage directly with the people shaping the future of the industry, Ceylon Gemlogue 2026 promises to be one of the most anticipated gatherings on Sri Lanka’s gem and jewellery calendar.

Hayleys Solar, renewable energy solutions provider, marked a major milestone in its renewable energy journey with the opening of its 3MW Veyangoda Ground-Mounted Solar Project, with Hon. Anura Karunathilake, Minister of Energy, gracing the occasion.

The 3 MW Hayleys Solar Veyangoda Ground-Mounted Solar Project, inaugurated as the first project under the 300 MW ground-mounted solar rollout.

The project marks the first of Hayleys Solar’s planned 300MW portfolio of ground-mounted solar power projects across Sri Lanka, further strengthening its commitment to expanding large-scale renewable energy solutions.

Hayleys Solar is part of Hayleys Fentons Limited, under the Hayleys Group – Sri Lanka’s most diversified blue-chip conglomerate with a business legacy spanning nearly 150 years across 17 sectors. The Veyangoda project reflects the Group’s continued investment in expanding its renewable energy footprint in line with its long-standing commitment to sustainable innovation and nation-building.

Located adjacent to the Aththanagalla Oya, the project was designed to withstand challenging environmental conditions, including potential flooding during heavy rainfall. Following a detailed assessment using historical data from the Irrigation Department, Hayleys Solar implemented an elevated solar mounting structure with increased clearance and safety margins, together with elevated inverter supports and customised cable routing systems to enhance the project’s resilience.

Highlighting the importance of private sector participation in Sri Lanka’s energy transition, Hon. Anura Karunathilake, Minister of Energy, said: “Building a secure and sustainable energy future for Sri Lanka requires us to harness the potential of renewable energy while encouraging greater participation from the private sector. Projects such as these demonstrate how investment, innovation and climate-resilient solutions can come together to support this national priority. We encourage more such initiatives that can strengthen our renewable energy capacity and contribute to a cleaner and more sustainable Sri Lanka.”

A commemorative plaque being presented to Hon. Anura Karunathilake, Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation and Minister of Energy, by Mr. Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director, and Mr. Roshane Perera, Deputy Managing Director – Energy of Hayleys Fentons Limited

Hasith Prematillake, Managing Director of Hayleys Fentons Limited, said: “The Veyangoda project demonstrates our commitment to developing renewable energy solutions that respond to the realities of our environment. By integrating climate-resilient engineering with innovative land utilisation, we have created a solar installation that not only withstands challenging site conditions but also delivers greater value from the available land.”

The project comprises 4,143.36 kWp of DC capacity and 3MW of AC capacity, featuring 640W bifacial solar panels, and is expected to generate approximately 6,351,770.88 kWh of clean electricity annually – enough to meet the annual electricity needs of around 2,700 average Sri Lankan households¹ while avoiding approximately 4,339.53 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year.

With an average clearance of approximately 2.7 metres above ground level, the elevated structure also enables productive use of the land beneath the solar panels. As part of an agrivoltaic initiative, the space will support the cultivation of vegetables such as Scotch bonnet pepper and brinjal, enabling agricultural production alongside renewable energy generation.

Roshane Perera, Deputy Managing Director – Energy, Hayleys Fentons Limited, said: “Our Veyangoda project showcases how innovative solar designs can deliver multiple benefits from a single site. The elevated configuration enhances flood resilience while improving airflow beneath the panels and supporting greater utilisation of reflected sunlight through bifacial technology. The planned agrivoltaic initiative further demonstrates how renewable energy generation and agriculture can coexist productively.”

The Veyangoda project reinforces Hayleys Solar’s commitment to advancing resilient, sustainable and innovative renewable energy solutions while supporting Sri Lanka’s transition towards a cleaner energy future.

Oxford College of Business (OCB) has achieved another significant milestone in its workplace journey, being named among the 50 Best Workplaces in Sri Lanka for the 13th consecutive year at the Great Place To Work Awards 2026 — an achievement that reflects more than a decade of sustained commitment to building a high-trust, people-centered organisational culture.

Adding further significance to this milestone, Oxford College of Business was recognised as the No. 1 Micro-Sized Best Workplace in Sri Lanka, received Industry Excellence for Workplace Culture in the Professional Services Sector, and was ranked the 49th Best Small & Medium-Sized Workplace in Asia.

Together, the four distinctions provide a powerful endorsement of OCB’s workplace philosophy at national, industry, organisational-size and regional levels.

Thirteen Years of Consistency

For Oxford College of Business, being recognised among Sri Lanka’s 50 Best Workplaces for the 13th consecutive year is particularly meaningful.

While individual awards celebrate achievement at a particular point in time, thirteen successive years of recognition speak to something deeper — the ability to sustain a workplace culture through changing generations of employees, evolving expectations, organisational growth, technological transformation and new ways of working.

Throughout this journey, Oxford College of Business has continued to place its people at the centre of institutional progress, recognising that the experience it creates for students and stakeholders begins with the experience it creates for its employees.

The institution’s people philosophy is built around trust, respect, fairness, professional development, recognition, wellbeing, inclusion and meaningful opportunities for employees to contribute to the direction of the organisation.

No. 1 Micro-Sized Best Workplace in Sri Lanka

Further strengthening its 2026 performance, Oxford College of Business was named the No. 1 Micro-Sized Best Workplace in Sri Lanka.

The recognition demonstrates that the strength of workplace culture is not determined by organisational scale. Oxford College of Businesshas consciously used its close-knit organisational structure to encourage greater accessibility to leadership, stronger cross-functional collaboration, faster communication and a workplace where individual contributions can have visible institutional impact.

Commenting on the achievement, Malindu Ranasinghe, Director/CEO of Oxford College of Business, said: “Being recognised among Sri Lanka’s 50 Best Workplaces for thirteen consecutive years is perhaps one of the most meaningful achievements in our institutional journey. Awards may recognise a particular year, but consistency over thirteen years tells a much bigger story. It tells us that through change, growth and challenge, our people have continued to believe in the culture we are building together.

To also be recognised as Sri Lanka’s No. 1 Micro-Sized Best Workplace, receive Industry Excellence for Workplace Culture in the Professional Services Sector, and be ranked among Asia’s Best Small & Medium Workplaces makes 2026 an exceptionally proud year for Oxford College of Business.

We have always believed that if we expect our people to create exceptional experiences for our students, we must first create an exceptional experience for our people. Culture is not created for an award. It is built every day through how people are treated, whether they are heard, whether their contribution is valued and whether they are given the opportunity to become better versions of themselves.

This recognition belongs to every member of the Oxford College of Business family, past and present, who has contributed to this remarkable thirteen-year journey. Above all, I give glory to God for His grace, guidance and faithfulness that have sustained Oxford College of Business throughout these years.”

Oxford College of Business was also recognised for Industry Excellence for Workplace Culture in the Professional Services Sector, extending the significance of its achievement beyond higher education.

The recognition demonstrates OCB’s commitment to benchmarking itself against professionally managed organisations across the wider corporate landscape, rather than measuring workplace excellence solely against other educational institutions.

This approach has encouraged the institution to continuously strengthen its practices in areas including leadership development, employee engagement, performance management, professional learning, recognition, wellbeing, inclusion and digital enablement.

From Sri Lanka to the Asian Stage

OCB’s workplace credentials were further strengthened internationally with its ranking as the 49th Best Small & Medium-Sized Workplace in Asia.

The regional recognition places Oxford College of Business alongside organisations from across Asia and provides an important external benchmark for the institution’s workplace culture.

For Oxford College of Business, the achievement demonstrates that an organisation of relatively modest scale from Sri Lanka can build a workplace experience capable of earning recognition on a much larger regional stage.

Mrs. Lakshika De Silva, Director – Human Resources at Oxford College of Business, said: “Thirteen consecutive years of recognition make this achievement particularly special because great workplace culture is never something that can be completed. People change, expectations change and workplaces change. Our responsibility in HR is therefore to keep listening, learning and evolving.

At Oxford College of Business, we focus on creating an environment where people feel trusted, respected and valued, but equally where they are challenged to learn, grow and realise their potential. We continue to invest in professional development, employee wellbeing, recognition, inclusive practices, leadership opportunities and creating a workplace where people feel a genuine sense of belonging.

Being recognised as the No. 1 Micro-Sized Best Workplace in Sri Lanka is an enormous honour, but our greatest responsibility is to continue earning the trust of our people every day.”

More Than a Workplace Award

OCB’s sustained recognition reflects a broader belief that workplace culture and institutional performance are inseparable.

The institution considers engaged and empowered employees fundamental to delivering quality education, strengthening student experiences, embracing innovation and creating long-term value for its stakeholders.

Over thirteen years, this philosophy has evolved alongside changing workplace expectations. Greater emphasis has been placed on continuous learning and development, employee wellbeing and work-life balance, recognition and rewards, inclusive workplace practices, leadership development, mentoring, flexible ways of working, psychological safety and transparent performance management.

The result is a workplace culture designed not simply around retaining talent, but around enabling people to flourish.

Thirteen Years — and Still Evolving

Being named among Sri Lanka’s 50 Best Workplaces for thirteen consecutive years represents a remarkable chapter in Oxford College of Business’s organisational journey. Yet the institution views the milestone not as a destination, but as a responsibility to continue raising its standards.

The four Great Place To Work recognitions secured in 2026 — 13 consecutive years among Sri Lanka’s 50 Best Workplaces, No. 1 Micro-Sized Best Workplace in Sri Lanka, Industry Excellence for Workplace Culture in the Professional Services Sector, and 49th Best Small & Medium-Sized Workplace in Asia — collectively reflect the depth and consistency of the culture OCB has sought to build.

For Oxford College of Business, however, the most meaningful measure of a great workplace will continue to be found beyond rankings and trophies: in whether its people feel trusted, valued, supported, empowered and proud of the organisation they represent.

After thirteen consecutive years of recognition, OCB’s ambition remains unchanged to create a workplace where exceptional people can do exceptional work.

Gateway Colleges celebrates an outstanding international achievement by four of its students, who represented Sri Lanka at the 19th International Earth Science Olympiad (IESO) 2026 in Turin, Italy, and collectively secured an impressive 10 medals across individual, team and project events the highest medal tally ever achieved by Sri Lanka at the Olympiad to date.

Held from 20 to 27 August 2026 and hosted by the University of Turin, IESO brought together talented young Earth Scientists from countries around the world for a challenging programme of theoretical, practical and field-based assessments. The competition covered a wide range of disciplines, including geology, geophysics, meteorology, oceanography, terrestrial astronomy and environmental science. Students also had the opportunity to collaborate internationally on field investigations and research projects.

The success of the four students followed their strong performances at the 16th Sri Lankan Earth Science Olympiad Competition, organised by the Geological Society of Sri Lanka, where Gateway students featured prominently among the country’s top performers. Significantly, all four members of the final team selected to represent Sri Lanka were Gateway students three from Gateway College Colombo and Selvendra Jathuran from Gateway College Dehiwala, who emerged as the overall winner. Gateway students made a remarkable contribution to Sri Lanka’s success at the Olympiad, with all four members of the national team returning with medals.

LosaraKulatunge, from Gateway College Colombo, delivered an exceptional performance, securing a Gold Medal for the Earth Science Project and a Silver Medal for the International Team Field Investigation. His achievement in the Earth Science Project was the highest medal awarded to a Gateway student at the competition and was a significant contribution to Sri Lanka’s overall success.

AyodhInduwara Abeyratne, from Gateway College Colombo, also enjoyed an impressive medal-winning performance. He secured a Silver Medal for the International Team Field Investigation, together with Bronze Medals for the Earth Science Project and the Written Practical Individual Test. His success across three different components of the Olympiad demonstrates both his breadth of knowledge and his ability to apply his skills in individual and collaborative settings.

Gamlathralalage Mihin Apsara, from Gateway College Colombo, earned a Silver Medal for the Earth Science Project and a Bronze Medal for the Written Practical Individual Test. His achievements reflect a strong combination of research, scientific understanding and practical application.

Selvendra Jathuran, from Gateway College Dehiwala, continued his outstanding performance on the international stage by securing a Silver Medal for the Earth Science Project, along with Bronze Medals for the International Team Field Investigation and the Written Practical Individual Test. Jathuran’s achievement follows his success at the national level, where he emerged as the first-place overall student at the 16th Sri Lankan Earth Science Olympiad Competition.

Together, the four students secured 10 medals for Sri Lanka, comprising one Gold, four Silver and five Bronze medals.

The achievement is particularly significant considering the demanding nature of IESO, where students are assessed not only on their individual knowledge and practical skills, but also on their ability to investigate real-world Earth Science challenges, conduct fieldwork and collaborate with students from different countries.

Their journey to the international stage was the result of months of preparation, dedication and rigorous selection, culminating in the opportunity to represent Sri Lanka among some of the world’s most promising young Earth Science students.

This exceptional performance is a testament to the students’ passion for science, their commitment to learning and their ability to excel on an international stage. It also reflects Gateway Colleges’ continued emphasis on scientific inquiry, critical thinking, research and academic excellence.

Zellers has pioneered Sri Lanka’s first White Chocolate Centre-Filled range, creating a new chocolate experience that combines creamy white chocolate, indulgent centre fillings and contrasting textures in every bite.

The introduction marks another step in Zellers’ journey as a chocolate innovator, transforming conventional white chocolate into something more surprising and indulgent. Inspired by globally trending centre-filled chocolates and dessert-led flavours, Zellers has brought this experience to Sri Lankan consumers with a distinctly local appeal.

At the heart of the range is a richer, milkier and smoother white chocolate shell, complemented by exciting centre fillings and added textures. The result is a melt-in-the-mouth experience with an unexpected burst of flavour at the centre.

The range debuts in two dessert-inspired variants, Red Velvet Cookie Cream Filled White Chocolate and Blueberry Cheesecake Cream Filled White Chocolate.

The Red Velvet variant combines smooth white chocolate with a luscious red velvet cookie cream centre and crunchy red velvet cookie crumbles dipped. Beyond taste, its striking appearance makes it an eye-catching chocolate experience, bringing together colour, creaminess and crunch in a format inspired by the popular red velvet dessert.

The Blueberry Cheesecake variant pairs creamy white chocolate with a rich blueberry cheesecake cream filling, balancing fruity, tangy sweetness with smooth cheesecake indulgence. Its distinctive purple-toned appearance adds another visual dimension, making the chocolate as appealing to look at as it is to experience.

Together, the two variants are designed to create a genuine “wow” moment from the first bite. The combination of smooth white chocolate, hidden fillings, vibrant appearances and contrasting textures brings an element of discovery that moves beyond the conventional chocolate experience.

The new range also reflects changing preferences among younger consumers and trend seekers who increasingly look for new textures, flavours and visually engaging products. By combining globally popular dessert-inspired concepts with an accessible chocolate format, Zellers continues to bring international chocolate trends closer to Sri Lankan consumers.

As one of the first local brands to consistently challenge conventional chocolate experiences, Zellers continues to position itself as a pioneer in flavour and format innovation. The introduction of Sri Lanka’s first White Chocolate Centre-Filled range gives a new twist to familiar chocolate indulgence and opens up fresh possibilities within the local category.

With this latest innovation, Zellers once again demonstrates its ambition to challenge the market, create unexpected chocolate experiences and continue shaping what comes next for Sri Lankan chocolate consumers.

Roar AI brings more than 200 frontier and open-source AI models together with locally hosted infrastructure, giving Sri Lankan developers and businesses a simpler way to build and scale with AI.

Mustafa Kassim – CEO and Founder Roar Global

Roar Global has introduced Roar AI, Sri Lanka’s first AI gateway, giving developers, startups and businesses access to more than 200 leading frontier and open-source AI models through a single platform.

Built in Sri Lanka, Roar AI is designed to address some of the practical barriers organisations face when building with artificial intelligence – from fragmented access to multiple models and complex international payments to application hosting, cost management and data governance.

Through a single integration, Roar AI users can access and build with a wide range of global AI models such as Anthropic, Gemini, Perplexity, Llama, DeepSeek and Kimi – choosing the right model for each application or workload without having to manage multiple platforms, accounts and billing relationships.

Beyond model access, Roar AI provides the infrastructure needed to deploy and operate AI applications, including locally hosted applications, integrated databases, transactional email and automated backups. The platform also incorporates usage controls, budgets and guardrails to help organisations manage how AI is accessed and used across their teams.

Billing in Sri Lankan rupees gives local businesses greater predictability and control over AI expenditure, while local infrastructure and engineering support provide a closer-to-home option for organisations looking to build and operate AI applications.

“AI adoption should not be limited by where a business is based or by how easily it can access global infrastructure,” said Mustafa Kassim, Founder and CEO of Roar Global. “We built Roar AI to bring the world’s leading AI capabilities closer to Sri Lankan builders and businesses, together with the infrastructure and local expertise they need to turn those capabilities into real products.”

Roar AI is not a standalone AI application or chatbot. It acts as an infrastructure layer that allows developers to connect AI models to their own products, platforms and workflows. This gives teams the flexibility to experiment with different models, optimise for performance and cost, and scale their AI capabilities through one locally supported platform.

The launch reflects Roar Global’s broader evolution from a digital media and platform consultancy into a venture-building group operating across AI, technology platforms and the creator economy. The Group has made significant investments in AI-led innovation, with its teams already processing more than 10 billion AI tokens across the products, applications and workflows it has built.

Roar AI also represents a wider commitment to strengthening Sri Lanka’s participation in the global AI economy. By making advanced AI infrastructure easier to access locally, Roar aims to help developers, entrepreneurs and enterprises move beyond experimenting with individual AI tools and towards building scalable products and businesses with AI at their core.

“We don’t want Sri Lanka to simply be a market that consumes AI products built elsewhere,” Mustafa added. “We want Sri Lankan developers and businesses to have the infrastructure to build those products here and take them to the world.”

Roar AI is currently being introduced to selected builders and early adopters in Sri Lanka. Developers, startups and organisations interested in gaining early access can apply at roar-ai.com/early-access.

The diamond market has never offered more choice than what is available in the jewellery market today. Whether browsing for a diamond ring, a pair of diamond earrings, or an heirloom-worthy gift, today’s buyers face a pivotal question: ‘Should I invest in natural or lab-grown?’ In recent years, lab-grown diamonds have gained significant traction, particularly among younger buyers drawn to their lower environmental footprint and accessible price point. DINIDU, Sri Lanka’s leading jeweller of bespoke gemstone and diamond jewellery, offers both options. Brand founder, Dinidu Tennekoon explains, “We never approach a client with a fixed recommendation. The right diamond, whether natural or lab-grown, depends entirely on what the piece means, who it is for, and what purpose it serves. That is what we set out to discover with every client on their personalised customer journey”.

What Is the Difference Between Natural and Lab-Grown Diamonds?

The core differences between natural and lab-grown diamonds come down to four key points:

  • Origin: Natural diamonds are formed over billions of years beneath the earth. Lab-grown diamonds are created in controlled laboratory environments that replicate extreme heat and pressure conditions in natural diamond formation.
  • Chemical composition: Both natural and lab diamonds are 100% carbon and are chemically, physically, and optically identical.
  • Brilliance and durability: Both score 10 on the Mohs hardness scale and produce the same exceptional brilliance and fire. There is no visible difference, even to the expert eye.
  • Cost: The distinction in price reflects origin and supply chain, not quality. As natural diamonds are rarer and take billions of years to form, lab diamonds are comparatively more affordable for equivalent carat sizes, given their manufactured origin.

At DINIDU, natural diamonds are primarily sourced from Africa, while lab-grown diamonds are sourced from India, ensuring provenance and quality at both ends of the spectrum. As Sri Lanka’s specialist in diamond engagement rings and bespoke diamond jewellery, DINIDU brings an unmatched depth of expertise to helping clients choose the right stone for their vision.  As a general guide, DINIDU clients purchasing stones of 1 carat or below proceed to choose natural diamonds, while those seeking larger stones frequently opt for lab-grown for the significant value for money it delivers.

“Came for a diamond ring with a very specific brief and the team at DINIDU delivered it exactly. Patient, creative, communicative throughout. Could not have asked for more.”

— Arjun Vikram

In line with international standards, every DINIDU natural diamond of 0.25 carats and above comes with a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) certificate, while lab-grown diamonds of 0.25 carats and above receive an IGI (International Gemological Institute) certificate.

When Should You Choose a Natural vs Lab-Grown Diamond?

DINIDU recommends the right stone for the right purpose. The table below offers guidance by occasion.

Seylan Bank has been honoured with dual wins at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026, a prestigious recognition, as Sri Lanka’s Best Bank for Customer Experience and the Best Bank for SMEs; two of the most coveted country titles.

Euromoney is a leading international financial publication and market intelligence provider focused on global banking, capital markets, and institutional finance. Recognition from Euromoney reaffirms Seylan Bank’s commitment towards superior customer experience and Small and Medium Enterprise (SMEs) empowerment.

Having previously won the Best Bank for Customer Experience at the Euromoney Awards in 2025, Seylan Bank has retained the title for a second consecutive year, reaffirming the dependability of its specialist support and digital platforms to help individuals and businesses amplify growth and revenue.

The two-fold Euromoney accolades demonstrate international recognition of consistent care for bank customers and the depth of the Bank’s dedicated support for SMEs islandwide, validating years of investment in digital innovation and accessible banking.

Discussing the Bank’s reception of the awards, Director/CEO Ramesh Jayasekara said, “The dual recognition is a proud milestone for Seylan Bank, reaffirming our drive towards more meaningful and customer‑centric banking services. Being named Sri Lanka’s Best Bank for Customer Experience for the second consecutive year, and the award for Best Bank for SMEs, validates our continued investment in people and systems that deliver tangible value.

Seylan Bank’s SME award is a significant achievement for a bank firmly established as a catalyst for Small and Medium Enterprise growth in Sri Lanka. The recognition is driven by substantial efforts to empower the SME sector, resulting in the growth of Seylan’s SME loan portfolio.

Growth has been driven through purpose-built products addressing the specific barriers SMEs face such as collateral deficits, rising energy costs, and limited expertise in exports. Additionally, tailored propositions for women entrepreneurs grant consistency of service regardless of who is banking.

The Bank’s ‘Eco Solar Loan’ finances renewable energy adoption for SMEs and agri businesses, supported by partnerships, offer affordable solar energy systems. The Export Expert programme pairs financing with hands-on guidance on export procedures, documentation, and market access, with a dedicated Trade Hub in Pettah, one of Colombo’s principal commercial districts.

Digital investments have seamlessly kept pace with the expansion of the Bank’s product portfolio. Seylan Bank’s E-KYC process enables fast and instant account opening. Additionally, the Merchant Portal allows businesses without a website or shopping cart to accept online payments, complementing the Bank’s Internet Payment Gateway and Pay Direct services. In 2025, Seylan Bank became the first bank in Sri Lanka to enable Google Pay acquirer services for e-commerce merchants.

Seylan Bank’s dual win demonstrates its singular focus on delivering a consistent standard of service, regardless of how or where its customers choose to bank.

An Omnichannel Customer Relationship Management suite and chatbot-enabled engagement have standardised service delivery for digital and physical touchpoints. Active feedback loops, including real-time reputation management tools, trilingual branch feedback portals, and a 24/7 contact centre support the Bank to systematically track and respond to customer needs.

Seylan Bank has invested in elevated visibility for the SME clients it serves. For the fifth consecutive year, the television series ‘Oba Pa Nagena Maga Apa Inne,’ produced in partnership with Ada Derana, featured the journeys of over 60 SME entrepreneurs. This wide exposure delivers value above financing, supporting these small businesses to build their own brand recognition.

Seylan Bank’s recognition at the International Euromoney Awards for Excellence 2026 is an independent validation of a bank that has consistently supported its customers and is a testament to the commitment to empower Sri Lanka’s SME sector with tailored products, and sustained support.
