Sri Lanka Police has sought the assistance of the public to arrest a suspect wanted over an acid attack carried out against a woman in the Mawathagama Police Division on December 10, 2025. 

According to the Police, facts were presented to the Pilessa Magistrate’s Court after the incident, while the suspect is reported to have fled the area. 

As such, the Police have requested public assistance to apprehend the suspect, who is a resident of Kalawana. 

It is also reported that the suspect has been issued arrest warrants by the Kalawana and Ratnapura Magistrate Courts.

A man and his daughter have been attacked with acid in the Ambathale area in Mulleriyawa this morning (Oct 11), it was reported.

According to Lankadeepa, the acid attack had taken place when the father-daughter duo had been travelling on a motorcycle.

The police have received information that the acid attack was carried out by a person who was standing on the road.

The father who sustained injuries has been admitted to the Colombo Eye Hospital.

Meanwhile, the daughter is receiving treatment in the Emergency Unit of the Colombo National Hospital. (NewsWire)

A 52-year-old man who had attempted to throw acid at his daughter has been hospitalized along with his daughter with serious burn injuries, the Bulathsinghala Police stated. 

According to Lankadeepa, the Police stated that the man was severely addicted to alcohol and had constantly harassed his daughter, a mother of two, and other family members.

The 25-year-old daughter has also been admitted to the hospital with burn injuries as a result of the acid attack. 

Preliminary investigations have revealed that the suspect is an employee of a rubber factory and may have stolen acid from the factory to carry out the attack. (NewsWire)
