Three suspects have been arrested by the Western Province Northern Crime Division for possessing vehicles without valid registration certificates.

According to the Police, the arrests were made on April 1, 2026, during investigations into a suspect allegedly involved in preparing forged documents and engaging in a vehicle racket.

The Police said the suspects, aged 21, 39, and 44, are residents of Kandana and Meegahawatta. 

They were taken into custody along with three cars, two jeeps, one lorry, and a motorcycle.

Laboratory tests have confirmed that the material discovered in a Kandana home garden in September does not contain chemicals used in manufacturing crystal methamphetamine (ICE), state newspaper Dinamina reported, citing a senior police official.

A report from the Government Analyst’s Department received by Kandana Police, states that the powdery substance contained no methamphetamine or precursor chemicals linked to ICE production, the newspaper reported.

The Sri Lankan Police have found over 100 kilos of chemicals, suspected to be used in the manufacturing of crystal methamphetamine (ICE), in Kandana.

According to the Police, the white-coloured substance was found in the land of a house in Kandana. 

The Police state the substance was found disposed of at the site, while no suspects have been arrested in connection with it. 

The Police further stated that the substance was discovered following investigations into a suspect, currently in custody.

One person was reported dead and another injured in the shooting that was reported in the Kandana area today. 

According to reports, Sameera Manahara, who served as the private secretary of the late politician Mangala Samaraweera, was injured in the shooting.

However, an individual identified as Upali Kulawardena, who was travelling alongside Manahara, had succumbed to injuries following the shooting.

According to the Police Spokesperson, two unidentified gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire at a car near the Kandana Public Market this morning. 

The two individuals in the car who were injured in the shooting had been admitted to the Ragama Hospital, after which one person had succumbed to injuries.

A miracle statue at the St. Sebastian’s National Shrine in Kandana has been reported stolen.

Issuing a statement, the church said the miracle statue had been stolen between 2.15 am and 3.00 am today. 

Per CCTV footage, an individual wearing a red cap, covering his face, in black clothing had stolen the statue. 

The church said the suspect had entered the shrine from the direction of the boys’ primary school and had exited the same way.

The Police have sought public assistance to apprehend the main suspect in the shooting incident targeting a house in Kandana on 13 December 2024.

The motorcyclist in the shooting incident and six others who had aided the shooting have been arrested as of now following investigations by the Kandana Police.

While the identity of the main suspect is yet to be ascertained, CCTV footage has been found of him getting off the motorcycle and walking along a road soon after the shooting.

An 18-year-old boy has died in an accident between a motorcycle and a tipper truck at the Weligampitiya Junction in the Kandana area this afternoon.

The Police said three persons without helmets had been travelling on the motorcycle at the time of the incident.

The motorcycle which had plied from Weligampitiya to the Colombo- Negombo Road had failed to heed the orders of the Police to stop and had proceeded to the main road from the Weligampitiya Junction.

At the time, a tipper truck that was travelling from Negombo had collided with the motorcycle.

The pillion riders of the motorcycle, which had been travelling without a back licence plate number, had fled the area following the accident.

The rider of the motorcycle, an 18-year-old resident of Weligampitiya, had died in the accident. The Kandana Police is conducting investigations into the incident. (Newswire)

A suspect wanted over the recent shooting incident in the Polpithimukalana area in Kandana has been killed in a shootout with the Police early today (Oct 16).

The Police stated that the suspect was wanted over a shooting incident reported in a house in the Polpithimukalana area in Kandana on October 05.

The Kandana Police had conducted a raid after receiving a tipoff that the man was hiding in a house at Samindhu Mawatha in Pamunuwila in Sapugaskanda. 

During the raid the suspect had opened fire at the Police officers who had arrived to apprehend him, prompting them to retaliate by shooting at the suspect.

The suspect had died in the shootout, while the body was placed at the Kiribathgoda Hospital.

An individual has died in a fire that broke out in the warehouse of a chemical factory in Kandana this morning.

According to the Police, the deceased has been identified as an employee of the factory and a 50-year-old resident of Ganemulla.

Investigations have revealed that the Accountant of the factory had been inside the warehouse at the time the fire broke out and had died in the incident.

The Police further stated that measures are underway to douse the fire with the assistance of the Gampaha and Negombo fire brigades, and the Sri Lanka Navy.

A 17-year-old boy has died in a motor accident reported in the Thumpeliya area along the Weligampitiya- Ganemulla Road in Kandana last evening.

The Police stated that the boy who was riding a motorcycle had skidded and fallen trying to avoid a car plying in the opposite direction.

Investigations have revealed that the car was found to be travelling cutting into the road lane in the opposite direction prompting the motorcyclist to suddenly break resulting in him skidding and crashing onto the right side of the car. 

The motorcyclist who had sustained serious injuries in the accident had died after being admitted to the Ja Ela Hospital.

The deceased is a 17-year-old boy from the Kapuwatte area. The driver of the car has been arrested for reckless driving.
