Two suspects have been arrested by the Colombo Division Crime Branch for illegally storing diesel without a license.

According to the Police, the arrests were made on Sunday (05), during a raid carried out in the D.R. Wijewardena Mawatha area under the Maradana Police Division. 

Acting on a tip‑off, officers seized 826 litres of diesel along with Rs. 72,210, suspected to have been earned through unauthorized fuel sales.

The suspects, aged 23 and 61, are residents of Wellawatta and Wariyapola.

The Police have sought the assistance of the public to find a man reported missing from Maradana since August 25.

The Maradana Police have launched an investigation following a complaint filed by the wife of the missing man. 

It is reported that the missing individual is a 28-year-old man from Bibile, who was employed as a nurse in a hospital in Colombo.

An attempted shooting incident in Panchikawatte, Maradana late last night (June 13) failed after the firearm malfunctioned, Lankadeepa newspaper reported.

The suspects, two unidentified men on a motorcycle, targeted a local resident repairing a three-wheeler, according to Police.

The victim fled the scene unharmed. Police said the suspects dropped a bullet while escaping. Investigations are ongoing. (Newswire)

A 03-year-old child was reported dead after being run over by a vehicle near her residence in the Maradana area last afternoon.

The Police said the child’s father had reversed the vehicle to be parked near their house and had accidentally run over the child who was behind the vehicle.

Trains between Colombo – Fort and Maradana have been delayed, Sri Lanka Railways announced today.

According to the department, the delay is caused due to a technical issue on the railroad switch at the Fort Railway Station.

The department further said that as a result, all trains travelling towards Maradana have been halted, causing delays. (Newswire)

Two bodies were found in the Maradana and Chillaw areas within the 24 hours ending at 06.00 am today.

The Police said an unidentified individual was found near the BBC Bridge in Sangaraja Mawatha, Maradana last morning.

The individual had succumbed to injuries after being admitted to the Colombo National Hospital by the Police.

The Police said the deceased is assumed to be around 30 years old and is 5 foot 8 inches in height. 

Meanwhile, a body had washed ashore on the Iranawila beach in Ambakandhavila in Chillaw last evening.

The Police said the deceased has been identified as an individual who was reported missing after going fishing in Thoduwawa on Friday (Oct 27).

Investigations have found that the boat in which he had travelled had capsized during which he had drowned and another person had been saved.

The Consumer Affairs Authority (CAA) has seized over 15,000 white eggs that had been hoarded at a store in the Public Market in Maradana.

Following a raid conducted by CAA officials, it was found that the store had been hoarding eggs and selling them above the stipulated price. 

CAA officials had thereafter, taken measures for the eggs to be sold by the vendors themselves for the government stipulated price of Rs. 44 an egg.

Investigations revealed that the vendor had concealed the eggs to sell them to other vendors in various areas for a higher price. 

The Consumer Affairs Authority has requested the public to remain vigilant and not purchase goods for exorbitant prices and to inform the CAA of such malpractices. (NewsWire)

Traffic has been restricted on the road leading from the Fire brigade headquarters to Suduwella Junction on Arnold Rathnatyake Mawatha in Maradana, the Police stated.

Issuing a statement, the Police stated that traffic has been restricted along the said road due to a part of the road having caved in.

Stating that repair work has commenced on the road, the Police added that traffic will be restricted until the completion of the repair work.
