Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has announced squads to play in the West Indies Emerging Tour of Sri Lanka 2026.

According to an SLC statement, the West Indies and Sri Lanka emerging teams will play two four-day games and three one-day games during the bilateral contest. 

The tour will begin on June 08 with the first four-day game at MRICS, Hambantota, while the second four-day game will start on June 15 at the same venue. 

One-day games will be played on the 22nd, 24th, and 26th of June. 

The first two one-day games will be played at the SSC, and the final at the NCC. (Newswire)

Sri Lanka will tour the West Indies in June and July 2026 for a full white-ball and Test series, according to the schedule released by West Indies Cricket.

The tour will begin with a three-match One-Day International series, followed by three Twenty20 Internationals, before concluding with two Test matches.

All six white-ball matches will be played at Sabina Park in Jamaica, while the Test series will take place at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in Antigua.

The ODI series is scheduled for June 3, 6 and 8, followed by T20Is on June 11, 13 and 14. A warm-up match is planned at Coolidge from June 18 to 21.

The first Test will be played from June 25 to 29, while the second Test is scheduled from July 3 to 7. (Newswire)

The Sri Lanka U19 team will tour the West Indies from August to September to take part in a Youth ODI series vs. the West Indies U19. 

According to the SLC, the Sri Lankan team will depart for the West Indies on the 24th of August, 2025.

The Sri Lanka Emerging Team will tour the West Indies in June 2025 to engage in a bilateral tour. 

According to a Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) statement, the team will play two four-day and three limited-overs games during the tour. 

The SLC states the tour is expected to help prepare the emerging cricketers for the future by providing them with valuable exposure to different playing conditions and competitive environments.

West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has labelled Alzarri Joseph’s behaviour during the third ODI against England as “unacceptable” after the fast bowler left the pitch following a disagreement with captain Shai Hope.

During the fourth over of the innings in Bridgetown, Joseph was unhappy with a field placement and could be seen remonstrating with Hope. Off the fourth ball, Joseph removed Jordan Cox caught behind, but did not celebrate with his team, instead immediately returning to his mark. At the end of the over, Joseph left the field unannounced and went into the dressing room, forcing West Indies to begin the fifth over with only ten fielders on the pitch.

“Behaviour like that is unacceptable on my cricket field,” Sammy said to TalkSPORT after play. “We will be friends…but in the culture I’m trying to build, that’s unacceptable. We will definitely have a chat about that.”

Joseph returned to the pitch for the beginning of the sixth over, but did not resume bowling until the 12th. He bowled two more overs, before leaving the field again after two misfields off his bowling saw England gain two runs through overthrows. He returned later to bowl two more in the middle overs and his remaining three in the death.

Joseph finished the match with figures of 2 for 45 from his 10 overs after dismissing Cox and Dan Mousley.

Sammy, who was appointed as West Indies head coach in May 2023, is widely credited for his man-management abilities, and has convinced several players, such as Andre Russell and Evin Lewis, to return to the international game.

“I pride myself on having the difficult conversations,” Sammy said. “But in a way that everybody understands what is needed to be done. To see guys going out there and slowly progressing in the right direction makes me proud.

“There’s still a lot of work to be done, but it’s one that I’m quite passionate about.”

West Indies won the ODI series 2-1 and the five-match T20 series begins on Saturday, with Sammy hinting that some of the star names who were absent from their recent series against Sri Lanka, such as Nicholas Pooran and Akeal Hosein, are set to return.

“We’ve got a couple of senior players who were not in Sri Lanka that we expect to be back,” Sammy said. “Our T20 team is our most successful team and our most settled team. So, yes, we incorporate some new guys to give them that exposure, but our T20 team normally picks itself.” (Cricinfo)

Cricket West Indies (CWI) today announces a key update to the West Indies squad for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Jason Holder has been ruled out of the tournament due to an injury and left-arm fast bowler Obed McCoy has been named as his replacement.

While Jason Holder’s absence is notable, CWI is confident that the team remains strong and competitive with the inclusion of McCoy. Holder’s injury, sustained during the County Championship 2024, will require a recovery period, and the team’s medical staff will provide all necessary support to ensure his swift and complete recovery.

Cricket West Indies (CWI) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Head Coach for the West Indies (WI) Men’s Academy, marking a pivotal step in advancing the organisation’s commitment to excellence in cricket development. Following an extensive and meticulous selection process Ramesh Subasinghe has emerged as the ideal candidate to lead the WI Academy into a new era of performance and growth.

Before his appointment to CWI, Subasinghe, a former Sri Lankan first-class cricketer, served as the Head Coach of the New Zealand Cricket Men’s Development Programme and the Otago Cricket Associations Pathways Head Coach and Talent Development Manager. He holds an ICC Global Level 3 coaching qualification and is a qualified Coach Development with New Zealand Cricket.

Besides his qualifications, Subasinghe has exhibited significant expertise in critical areas including developing and implementing high-performance systems, technical remediations and sports bio-mechanics, team and individual holistic skills development, injury prevention and bowling loads management.

In its ongoing efforts to speed up the pace of play in international cricket, the International Cricket Council (ICC) has introduced a stop clock, on a trial basis, in Full Member Men’s ODI and T20I matches (approximately 59 fixtures) between December 2023 and April 2024.

The trial will start with the first T20I match between the West Indies and England on 12 December in Barbados.

The stop clock will restrict the amount of time taken between overs, meaning that the bowling team will need to be ready to bowl the first ball of their next over within 60 seconds of the previous over being completed. Failure to do so for the third time in an innings (following two warnings) will result in a five-run penalty being imposed against the fielding team.

In a surprising development, West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran has opted not to accept the Cricket West Indies (CWI) central contract for the 2023-24 season. 

Pooran’s decision comes alongside two other players who have declined the central contracts, marking a notable shift in the contractual landscape for West Indies cricket.

Three West Indies players decline central contracts

CWI annually awards central contracts to players, recognizing and remunerating them for their commitment and contributions to the national team.

Along with Pooran, Jason Holder and Kyle Mayers have also declined central contracts but will be available to feature in the T20Is during the upcoming season.

The central contracts are traditionally seen as a symbol of stability and commitment, and the declinations are likely to prompt discussions about the factors influencing these decisions.

Four newcomers in the central contract list

In the meantime, four players have been added to the central contract list for the first time and they are Gudakesh Motie, Keacy Carty, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze.

“With a busy year of cricket ahead, in all three formats, we have held several detailed discussions with the two Head Coaches on the brand of cricket they want to play. We are very clear in the direction we want to go. The players who have been offered contracts are among those who we expect to feature, as we look to build towards challenging for the top spot when we host and compete in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 on home soil,” said West Indies cricket team’s chief selector Desmond Haynes in his official statement.
