Maithripala Sirisena can’t be arrested over Easter Attack even if he has commited a crime – Gammanpila

Presidential Immunity bars former President from being arrested for Easter Sunday Attacks – Udaya Gammanpila

Leader of Pivithuru Hela Urumaya and stalwart of the current government, former MP Gammanpila states that former President Maithripala Sirisena cannot be prosecuted even if he has committed a crime, because of the immunity he enjoys as per article 35 (1) of Sri Lanka’s constitution.

He had stated this in twitter profile replying to the queries that has been directed towards him as to why the former president is not yet arrested with regard to Easter Sunday Attacks.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena is contesting the upcoming Parliament Election under SLPP from Polonnaruwa District.

Police last week confirmed Former President Maithripala Sirisena is not under any Investigation over the Easter Attack.
